I think there is some overlap between hobbyists and providers: We do it because we can, its exciting, often mutual sexual gratifying, and you get to met (and fuck) new people you might have never otherwise known (or be able to "go to bed" with). We clients have disposable income and the providers need it. Its a symbiotic relationship. Both can not survive with out the other and together both needs are met.

Another common thing: We all have broken down our own old fashion so-called moral standards in order to participate. Its like questioning a fellow member's proclivity or kink. Its like calling the kettle black. Whether you are a provider or a hobbyist, we all have questioned our own reasons for being in the hobby.
First of all, this is a HOOKER BOARD! I have never referred to a "lady" as a hooker. For conversation and identification purposes the thread title uses the word HOOKER! I mean no disrespect.

I'm certain as hobbyist’s we all have our different motivations. Mine are simple. I like sex! But I'm NON GFE! And I'm a selfish hobbyist! It’s all about me! When they start paying me, it will be about them. That being said, I am a gentleman and treat ladies with the utmost respect! So were clear on why I'm here! And I have absolutely no struggles with what I do! Personally I feel the hobby should be legal. But that’s just me!

So now were back to why do ladies participate in this thing we call a hobby? You are 100% correct that it’s all about the money! And it most certainly is symbiotic. But hobbyists and providers are not currency! They are living breathing things with feelings, families, needs and wants like the rest of the human race! Well except Burk, but nobody can explain him! LOL But there is more to this hobby than having sex for money! I do not pay for OTC time! NEVER! But it is amazing how much time I spend with providers OTC. Now why is that? My answer? Were not just hookers and man whores, were people! And that I'm afraid changes everything! Just saying…

Another commonly-used word for a prostitute is hooker. Although a popular etymology connects "hooker" with Joseph Hooker, a Union general in the American Civil War, the word more likely comes from the concentration of prostitutes around the shipyards and ferry terminal of the Corlear's Hook area of Manhattan in the 1820s, who came to be referred to as "hookers".
I think whether or not someone thinks a word is derogatory depends on the POV. Some words, are, in and of themselves, derogatory. The N word comes to mind, even though some people use it with impunity.

There are derogatory words used in relation to other races and/or persons with certain national origins.

But, as far as occupations are concerned, it's a little harder. We could argue, but I think whether or not an occupation's description is derogatory depends entirely on a person's POV. For instance, for some, a "cop" will always be seen as a "pig" or the enemy. While for others, they will always be seen as people who serve and protect.

So, if you are a lady who is OK with the term "hooker" that's all that counts. If you're not OK with it, that counts as much or more.

Me, I try to use the term "ladies" on this board and try to stay away from terms like "hookers," "providers," "whores," etc.

As long as we're inquiring into the appropriate use of common hobby terms, perhaps you don't mind if I share the Merriam Webster definition of "vixen?"

Straight from the Merriam-Webster website:

http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/vixen

1: a shrewish ill-tempered woman

2: a female fox

3: a sexually attractive woman

Which of the three definitions above would you think most hobbyists have decided best describes you, based on your comments so far in this thread?

Dudes: I know it was a little tongue in cheek. I know I was calling the kettle black here

I guess its my personal hangup. I don't like to think of the ladies here (thanks Charlie) as hookers, whores, or prostitute and us "tricks" or Johns. But I'm not dumb or naive not to think we are. I just don't like the tawdry, cheep, nasty sound of those words. Blame it on my Judeo-Christian up bringing and images they invoke. We all know there is a big difference between street walker hookers and (most) of the ladies here. Like back in the old days when there were whores and then there were Courtesans.

Again, if they are OK with the term, don't let my problems with it stop you from using them. Who am I to judge? I'm a black kettle too (well really a white one).

Carry on!

It started off as #4, then transitioned into "Have my own business but still work as companion par time while building it into successful enterprise"

They do it for the money... that simple. It is easy money and lots of it. Nothing wrong with that at all. I was talking with my hooker lady yesterday about me pleasing women for money. She said my clientele would most likely be older women. I agreed and thought I could do that, but I cannot make as much money doing that as I do being what I am now, so the better pay and better money is for me to continue what I do. And to be honest at this point it has gotten to be very easy money for me, I am lucky though.

It is an addictive lifestyle, last week I was talking with another hooker lady I saw and she seemed shy and to have moral issues with what we just did. So, I asked her "Is it worth it?" She said her problem was that she has a hard working for $20 an hour when she knows she can make so much more for just having sex. Her big fear was if her parnets ever found out.

There is a level of shame for ALL of us whether we admit it or not, I do not discuss my seeing hookers or ladies or whatever (it is just a word) with family and friends. It is a level of shame, I am fearful of what they will think of me. On the side of the provider, most do not advertise what they do when in a social setting. I went out with a well known provider frined one evening and we saw a show, she was called upon in the audience. The man asked her if worked for a living she replied "yes" and then he asked what do you do? She diod not reply with "I am an escort (or any other form of that word). A level of shame and her parent sand kids all know what she does for a living, but still we do not blurt it out in society, a small level of shame.

If I were working for $20 an hour, I would probably start selling my sexual services to old ladies in need of comfort. Just me.

I have no problem using the word HOOKER or even WHORE. Using those words frequently takes the stigma out of them. Whore can be a holy word, even. Some men admonish me for saying hooker, and some women do too ( one even said " I wouldn't go so far as to call myself a hooker..." Okay, well uh whatever) . The uncomfortableness of the words lies in the context of how they are said, not how often.
