DOJ opens criminal investigation into Cuomo
DOJ OPENS CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION INTO CUOMO AS NYC MAYORAL RACE HEATS UP
The Justice Department has launched a criminal investigation into Andrew Cuomo—NYC's mayoral frontrunner—over alleged lies to Congress about his pandemic-era nursing home decisions while governor.
The probe, opened by the Washington US Attorney's office, is being led by Jeanine Pirro, a former Fox News host who previously accused Cuomo of giving nursing home residents "a death sentence" and unsuccessfully ran against him for NY Attorney General in 2006.
Rich Azzopardi (Cuomo Spokesman):
"This is lawfare and election interference plain and simple — something President Trump and his top Department of Justice officials say they are against."
This isn't Trump's first DOJ action against Cuomo—his previous administration's nursing home investigation was found by the Inspector General to have violated agency rules by leaking details "days before an election."
