Default Beef Prices

Thank you, President Trump. I appreciate all that you've done to keep beef prices under control.

Wait, they're near record highs? How did this happen and how can Hamburder Donny fix it?

https://www.axios.com/2025/07/19/bee...-cpi-inflation

There's a lot to unpack here, so read the story and take a position. Many layers from droughts to smaller herds, feed costs,, increased reliance on imports subject to tariffs, fear of a screweorm resurgence, a strong demand and more.

Yeah all of that.
We sold a few thous head a few months ago and cashed in. Only kept a dozen of the best breeders and moved them with us to Missouri.

According the article, beef prices are at a record high, and will likely stay that way into 2026 and beyond.

So much for the "1-time spike in inflation but not a continued monthly increase" theory. Lol.

Thank you president trump, indeed

Raising cattle is EXPEnsiVE. No part of it is really cheap. The bigger part is that there only a handful of processing plants these days and they get as much money as the farmer did who raised the cattle. Usually total return on cow for the farmer selling live cattle is a net positive of average of 440, and the cost for processing is usually about 300 for the whole cow. That means processors' earn almost as much as the farmer who did all the work and care of the animals- and of course farmers keep the offspring but that's ancillary. I used to think farmers could get rich but it seems like unless you have a dedicated team of processors and resellers, the money to be made in the beef industry comes from back end via distribution of meat and hides after processing vs. on the front end.

Costs of care keeps going up too, and then you add in the markup from the retailers- holy shit it's no wonder a nice ribeye is 10-16 dollars a pd.

Maybe younze should try raising your own meat, see exactly what it takes, and you'd better understand why meat costs what it does.

Besides, none of you actually eat beef do you, their farts are destroying the earth, you should really stick to tofu, and Soylent Green.

We have to do what we must to save the planet.

Right?

RIGHT??????????????????????

Two years ago, my neighbor was selling whole cow at 3.50 a pound.

There are too many people in the middle, and too few people who want to work and produce a good product at a fair price, sure, free range chickens only, Pork rights to so much living space, no Veal from caged cows, can't stuff the gullets of Ducks to make Foi Gras.

There is a war on every industry in the country, and outrageous demands of farmers.

Buy a home near a pig farm, and then complain about the rancid smell of Pig shit.

Welcome to the country.

No wonder everything is getting more expensive.

I love a good steak; Porterhouse or Ribeye are my items of choice; followed by a good filet. Meat is crazy expensive to raise. My family is from the great midwest by the last two generations- and some were ranchers and I've been on and seen some big ass farms; both for cattle and for corn- 1000 acres ea.

Ever seen a corn crib you cannot see the end of? Ever empty one? LOL -that's a absolutely crazy ass job.

Thanks for the laugh tho on the soylent green - I just saw it for the umpteenth time- still holds up and is honestly more relatable than not.

I buy whole or half cow and have it broken down, unless there's a primal or section I want to butcher myself for a specialty cut I want to harvest that I know they aren't as familiar with.

Like a good Denver cut out of the serratus ventralis

I do agree on skipping the middlemen when possible. But for those who don't or can't reasonably do the same it is more costly. They also don't have the same amount of effort to put in or cleanup

Why do Social Security recipients get a yearly raise in their retirment to make up for inflation.

1970s Mickey Ds menu........

Because every year shit gets more expensive.

If we average out the last four years of inflation, everything should cost 10 percent more, but shortages push prices up even further.

We aren't growing new farmers fast enough, and we are narrowing the pipelines every year, factor in the fight against progress, as in Kali closing its last refinery, and they are predicting 8 dollar a gallon gasoline in Kalifornia, after its gone.

You have unrealistic hope that one person, ANY PERSON, can make a massive change, add in a lawsuit over anything he does, and you just make more gridlock.

You want to see change, have your elected official fight to make things better for everyone, and not just the people who see the world as you do.

BTW, add a zero to each item on that Mcds menu, and its strangely similar to prices of each thing today.

Hmmmmmmmmmm.

Yeah yeah, sure... but trumpy bear promised to "bring prices down starting on day one". We all heard him say it. He's had 6 months now, and everything just keeps getting more and more expensive. It's almost as if he's completely full of shit.

You have unrealistic expectations based on your political bias.

Nothing will ever be enough for Trump to accomplish.

Gotta remember that it's useless to expect you'd understand basic economics.
