Default What are you hopeless at?

I watched a program All Stars which gets olympic medallists competing at a range of different events. It was amazing how many things these wonderful athletes are hopeless at.

Mo Farah, gold medallist at 5K and 10K,, was hopeless over 100 metres

Alistair Brownlee, gold medallist heptathlete, was hopeless at gym exercises.

The winner I think, was a superheavyweight boxer, he was surprisingly fast and obviously strong.

It made me think - and to ask y'all - what are you truly hopeless at? Not just below average, but in the bottom centile of the population, bad enough to make it a matter of pride.

Let me start. I am hopeless at:

A. remembering poetry (the only poem I ever learnt in my life was 'Tiger Tiger, I was the only one in class who couldn;t remember it, and as a punishment I had to recite it evey day at lunch break. The only thing I now remember is:

Tiger Tiger burning bright
In the middle of the Night

and I have a feeling the second line is wrong, and the spelling of Tiger is wrong.)

B. throwing the shot. I have all the right moves, I can coach it, I can just about pick it up, but when I throw it it falls at my feet. I have no upper body strength, i am a runner.

C. Making small talk at a reception. The noise and the people just make me want to run away to get a breath of fresh air.

Anybody else like to confess? Please no schoolboy cliches, and no need to mention the hopelessness of others, that is too easy.

I'm not good at tolerating pompous British assholes who think they know what's best for America.

I am much to vain to ever admitt to being weak at anything.

Wait, I just did. I am totally weak when it comes to admitting I might be weak at something.

Seriously though, my biggest ineptitude comes in the form of math. It seems my brain just is not wired for understanding anything much past adding, dividing, multiplying and subtracting.

Good one. I had too much of that when I was young to put up with it any more.

Faithfulness? Not much good at that, any new gf is 50% attractive because of her friends who are fresh meat.

Not being provoked by CoG? I try, I try, I try, but then I loose patience and have to respond. Not this time. Yet. Even though he's broken the rules.

Seriously, isn't it a matter of strength and self confidence to admit you are not totally mr/miss wonderful? Nothing as unattractive as vanity and pride. Give me a pretty girl over any vain centrefold any day.

OK, here's another one.

Mornings.

If it wasn't for my bladder, I would never get out of bed in the morning.

Throughout my career I have been in jobs where it is OK to turn up for work at 10:00 a.m. and leave at 8 pm.

Only problem is peeing with a raging hard-on. I'm good at that in the morning

[I'm only up at this ungodly hour because I had an emergency in the UK I had to deal with, plus jet lag].

I'm perfect at everything.

If I have one flaw I guess it's being too modest.

I was told by professionals that I have poor tolerance for stupid people. Which probably explains a lot of my frustration with some people on this board. Oh, I can't remember names. I can download data such as history and political text but if I meet someone then I will forget their name two minutes later.

Exclamation Diversity

That is the wonderful diversity of life.

Most people will tend to migrate towards whatever it is they like to do, but then they become specialists who are only good at that particular endeavor.

Some people are only good at crime.

. . . Personally, I am still trying to figure out all the nuances of the female mind, but at least I have discovered that logic is not the route to get you there!

Apparently COG must have agreed to not make Essence look foolish. I can see how he might break that agreement just by accident.
