Default OWE THE IRS? YOUR CITIZENSHIP RIGHTS WILL BE REVOKED!

Harry Reid, Obama, and the Democrats are looking to pass this bill....

Efforts to pass a bill that would allow the IRS to deny travel rights to U.S. citizens who the feds merely claim owe $50,000 or more in delinquent taxes represents a de facto move to revoke the citizenship of Americans without due process and in complete violation of the Constitution.

Thanks to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, a recently passed Senate bill, the suitably Orwellian entitled ‘Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century Act’, includes a provision that allows the federal government to revoke passports of Americans accused of owing back taxes.

The legislation now moves to the Congress where, despite a Republican majority, the IRS provision is expected to be retained in the final version of the bill because it will raise an estimated $750 million dollars over ten years.

“There is no requirement that the tax payer be guilty of or even charged with tax evasion, fraud, or any criminal offense — only that the citizen is alleged to owe the IRS back taxes of $50,000 or more,” reports the Daily Economist.

Empowering the IRS to deny fundamental rights on a whim is completely illegal and unconstitutional.

“There are also numerous Supreme Court precedents protecting these same rights,” writes Jack Swint. “Furthermore, the law appears to violate Article I, Section 9, paragraph 3 of the United States Constitution, which forbids “Bills of Attainder”, which are laws providing for the punishment of an individual without benefit of judicial process.”

“It takes away your right to enter or exit the country based upon a non-judicial IRS determination that you owe taxes,” Constitutional Attorney Angel Reyes told FOX Business. “It’s a scary thought that our congressional representatives want to give the IRS the power to detain US citizens over taxes, which could very well be in dispute.”

What’s next? If the feds can bar you from leaving the country merely by claiming you have committed some infraction without having to provide any evidence, the prospect of Americans being abducted and interned indefinitely under the National Defense Authorization Act with a similar absence of due process is just around the corner.

Will citizens have their drivers license cancelled if the state claims they are behind on their property taxes? How about the government working with big banks to suspend credit cards if an individual is accused of avoiding inheritance or capital gains tax? Will similar punitive measures of punishment be enforced for Americans who attempt to avoid mandatory government health care?

You already can not renew you DL if you have outstanding tickets. You have not been convicted. Is this good or bad?

DL is not a right but a privilage; so the constitutional violation is less important...like comparing a high tide to a tsunami......actually there isn't a comparison IMO.

But losing one's right to travel freely......................be cause you allegedly owe money to the Feds; and the Reid legislation doesn't even require a conviction...just an accusation of indebtness !

''so the constitutional violation is less important''Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Most folks would rather have a DL and drive than a passport and travel. That is a fact based on sheer numbers.

Now I guess you could argue that you could walk and I could argue that you could walk accross the border but the fact remains that you seem to have no problem with the state restricting your rights like I do.

WTF; all I said was the Constitutional right to travel freely trumps one's priveages to hold a driver's license............The crazy thing is that you think they are both equal (or presumably having a DL is more important). Without the right to travel freely; having a driver's license would be meaningless...

But to turn your logic around; I guess you think that having a Driver's License is constitutionally more important than being able to freely move around your city, state, or country !

It is the constitutional right to move freely that gives meaning to holding a state issued DL; therefore, that right has primacy.

Earth to Whirlygig: the IRS has always had special powers. There's no requirement of adjudication for them to freeze or levy your bank accounts, the 4th Amendment basically doesn't apply to the IRS and on and on. The country doesn't run without the money generated by IRS payments and collections so they get special treatment.

The purpose of the legislation is to prevent criminals who refuse to pay their taxes, like the rest of us do, from absconding from the US to other countries without extradition treaties.

Being the dumbass that you are, you may think it is a fine idea to let tax cheats run off to other countries. I disagree.

Well if you can't afford to pay your taxes honestly you shouldn't be able to afford to travel outside of the country anyways. Depending on your salary $50k adds up to many years without one regarding their taxes.

Taxes are the blood/gas of our country so it seems copacetic to me.

Earth to Timmyboy; no news flash that the IRS has special powers...but I guess you, Reid, Obama and the Democrats want to codify into law those powers and more.........

The law doesn't require a conviction only an assertion. If you are ok with that then fine, you are in lock step with Obama and the Democrats.

I think it is bad legislation...and a very bad trend............more power to the IRS.........

don't forget Obama has budgeted for the hiring of 41,000 more IRS agents to monitor and police his Obamacare law.....................

But Timmyboy thinks all this is just fine and dandy.................

The fools, the fools.......................

Wow; scary.

Here is a novel idea.....if you broke the law (as a tax cheat), let the Feds get a conviction, then put travel restrictions on the felon.

That isn't what this law does.....

There are alot of laws restricts felons from voting and several other things law-abiding Americans citizens have the privilege of. I am sure that if a persons tax history is in question the IRS will have no problem pulling up the exact cause for the delinquency.

I think of the "law" and the government as an ever-changing animal, there are only a few things set in stone meanwhile the rest evolves and adapts to the general public's wants and needs.

I am sure American citizens from 150 years ago would gasp at the things we consider American privilege like giving free healthcare and dental care to prisoners, or medicaid to other citizens in general. Or us each having to be assigned SSN's which is pretty much like a barcode to track us throughout our lives-things like this would have be preposterous to old America, but alas- we change.

All of which you state are after a conviction in a court of law......

The Reid and Obama law has no requirement of a conviction only an assertion !

So by your own standards Warren Buffet, who allegedly owes tens of millions in back taxes should not be able to travel freely ?
