Default ATT Dennis, Gary, or any other burgh people

See anything funny about the wording of this ad?

http://sanantonio.backpage.com/Femal...ial-35/4507680

Technically, back in the burgh, this might be considered a hate crime.

Go Hard Coal Mining Heritage. Go Steelers.

Funniest thing I seen all day, repete offender. But how do we explain to these TX folks? I dont think we can.

Hint: perjorative word for 19th, 20th century immigrants from Chekoslovakia, Slovenia, Slovakia Croatia and other Central European (Bohemian) areas working as first generation laborers in the steel and coal mining industries.

All I know is this gal better not put this ad on BP in Pittsburgh--she will have the EEOC on her ass.

I was thinking, we got all those BP ad links in ISO, maybe a thread here for BP ad bloopers like this one? Sometimes those BP ad bloopers are really funny.

I get it now. I never knew "hunky" was used in that manner.

hun·ky 1 (hngk)
n. pl. hun·kies Offensive Slang Used as a disparaging term for a person, especially a laborer, from east-central Europe.

[Probably shortening and alteration of bohunk.]

didn't go over very well if you said you were dating a Pole and you were taking her to Isaly's for a pop!!...

classmates like Kapashansky, Dobroshelski, Snodgrass, Wolfberg, Pinsker, Goebel, Carbona, Tucci, Lolli, Severino and who could forget - Higginbotham.

Default HELL YES!!!

flinde --

Been off the site awhile, and am just seeing this. Hell yeah, picked up on it immediately -- "Hunkie" (as I'd have spelled it, vice "hunky" in the ad): always knew of it as a pejorative for "Hungarian." As insulting as "Wop" or "Dago" is to Italians.

One thing I don't miss about one of the neighborhoods where I grew up -- how my classmates at St. Agnes Elementary School in Oakland got their kicks, slamming each others' ethnic backgrounds.

I remember one kid, John Scanlon, trying to get a rise out of me, calling me any number of names. Nothing worked; I'd turned my back and walked away. Then:

"Peasant!"

I tried my best to slam his face through the windshield of a parked car.

Anyway, flinde, about your question, how do we explain it to these folks in TX: I remember asking someone, shortly after moving down here:

"What's up with the Aggie jokes?"

Answer: "You're from the 'Burgh, right? They're Texas's version of Pollock (Polish) jokes."

I'm sure she didn't. And I'm equally sure flinde's just having some fun with his buds from the Burgh.

Ah, Isalys for a pop. I loved those deviled crabs on the tinfoil--wonder what was in them--I'm sure no crab.

Good old Isalys chipped chopped ham.

http://www.isalys.com/

It was a great day for Texas when the rights for Klondike bars were bought out of Isaly's bankruptcy, and hit the HEB's.

I remember all the millhunk dad's at the picnics, with a big slab of bacon or fatback on a stick. They stuck over the fire till it was dripping, dripped the fat on bread, which they ate. Those old guys all had heart attacks when they were about 40.

Yunz remember "Kennywood is open?" Weddings at the Croatia Fraternal Union hall with the off duty cop guarding the presents.

...and taking your date up to Bedford Heights or the Hill District for some great soul food after watching the Pittsburgh Hornets (used to be the Detroit Olympics) at The Gardens or watching that new kid Franki Valle and his group at the Twin Coaches with Bobby Vinton or The Skyliners being the warn-up act...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of..._neighborhoods

it either proved you were insane or had seen way too many Captain Video, Lash LaRue, and other Saturday serials which made you invincible...
.remember the night I was dubbed "the BLUE eyed soul brother" ---

and the little Alka Seltzer guy was dancing in my mind and singing "...oh what a relief it is..."

Flinde -- Gotta spell it out for the Texans:

A reference to Kennywood, the #1 amusement park in the area, "Kennywood's open" was a euphemism for, "Your fly is open"!

Just for shits and grins, I think I'll give a nice tip to any provider who -- the moment we're together BCD -- reaches down, unzips my fly, looks me dead in the eye, smiles, and tells me:

"Kennywood's open!"

I used to get my soulfood at a rib joint on the flats in Homestead--the place is the Target Supercenter parking lot now I think.

And a rib joint way out near Sutersville on the Youghigheny in a ghost town called Scott Haven. Run by a black Cajun. Called Rocky's Rib Joint.

Dennis do you remember Rush Limbaugh as a regular top 40 DJ? WIXZ 1360. The office is at Rte 48 @ Walnut in McKeesport--about a block from that Korean massage parlor in Mckeesport that people review nowadays.

Used to go down there on a Friday night and make faces at him through the glass to get him to laugh on air. I still make faces at that cocksucker.

He was about 20-21. Called himself Jeff Christie. He was a big fat kid, and they let us in if we brought Rush a pizza.

Bill Burns announcing the brick alley raids in Mckeesport. What an idyllic place to grow up.
