New to the hobby... How do I begin without references?

The title basically explains it all. I have never seen a provider before, but I am looking to do so in the near future. How do I go about my first session? I have contacted several local providers, and all seem to want references, and do not respond when I say I am a first-timer.

Any help would be appreciated, folks. Thank you.

not sure where you are looking but i don't believe i ever had a BP provider ask for references

Never had an issue with it, only been told no twice in 7 yrs. Maybe it's because I'm not a nobody ?
If you aren't comfy going that route use p411 or see fly by night hood rats that don't care about themselves or you.

My comment wasnt directed at you specifically. If he had been around and knows who is reputable and who is not that MIGHT be a different story. But since he said he was new I think it is good advice to him to stick to a 411 or something. Dont want the poor bastard giving his facebook page to some tart on BP
