Default Testing

Had a friend recently pass away from complications of Hep B.
Got me to thinking girls/guys do you consider Hep B or C as part of your testing ritual?
Ive been blessed to always have clean tests for this and others...but never thought about that until this recent passing.
Now I know people can catch these from alot of different reasons.
Be safe peeps...

Default Everyone in this hobby...

...should be tested at least annually for all the Heps, HPV, HIV, STDs, etc.

Your county's health department would be happy to help you in that regard, and will do so anonymously.

I've got my clean bill of health and can prove it. Hope all of you do, too!

Here's to a SAFE 2018!

Are you sure on the anonymous part? I thought they refused to let you stay anonymous because of the public health concern.

I have tested anonymously for the past 3 years in my county (Jackson). I'm sure if there were something amiss showing up, then reporting would become essential.

But I'm clean so I'm UTR. I have dealt with the same RN for the past 3 years, she knows I am a provider and she just wants me and my partners to be safe. She even sends me home with a buttload of condoms.

I go to Johnson County Health Department every 3 months - it is not anonymous, but you provide very little real world info other than your name and hobby phone/hobby email - I pay case, so no credit card info. They are cool, don't get all up in your business and are very helpful. $50 provides a lot of peace of mind.

Are you expected to keep them there all the way home? I'm having flashbacks from The Right Stuff.

In all seriousness, a GP will do these tests for the asking. It's really not that big of a deal and generally completely covered by basic health insurance. I even throw a chest X-ray in there to screen for TB in the spring because I generally get a respiratory infection every year.

A lot of guys have a SO and they don't want to explain an STD screening on their EOB. Hence, the anonymity of the county health departments is great. The health departments are concerned with one thing--keeping everyone safe. They are less concerned with who you are. You can also go to KC Care Clinic.

Even if you have to give up some of your confidential info, it's better to be safe than sorry. And health providers are bound by HIPAA regulations to not share your info with anyone.

So go get tested, everyone. Start the new year out playing SAFE! With all the BBBJ going on in our community, it's a MUST!

What does the JoCo health dept cover on the test? I doubt it's the 10 panel test Bilbo mentioned.

I have seen the same doctor now for the past 10 years, she is familiar with me, and I've been very open and honest with her about being a provider. So she schedules me every three months for testing. (She tests for everything, hep,STD,HIV,all the way down to my cholesterol levels) My insurance covers all of it. Providing a clean bill of health isn't a problem for me. I can see where having a SO maybe difficult for some not to go the direction I do. But I prefer my family doctor deal with me. I'm comfortable with her, she knows me, and my health history.

Same/Everything.
Every six months due to the damn cholesterol, so I throw everything else in. The cholesterol's not that bad, but could be better.
But what do you expect with a guy that has two grills and learned to take critters apart on a farm when younger. The Doc starts his soap box mantra on cholesterol each time, but shuts up when I ask him if he wants any dear meat next season.

You must have a male for a Dr, lol. Drs always lecture on cholesterol, smoking, drinking, ext. But that's funny mid sentence of him telling you, put the bacon down, spit out I got deer jerky for ya!! He will then forget about you eating that bacon. Lol. Man I miss my country life. I used to hunt and can feild dress a deer, then take it in, ground up what meat I want, make steaks, ext. But have never made jerky. Let me know when you get some deer sometime!!

Great post BD!!! I have alot of experience especially with HIV and Hep C. I work in the medical manufacturing market and actually sell the Point of Care tests for HIV and Hep C. VERY important anyone involved in this business gets screened for both disease states!...at least 2-4 times per year! Nice thing about these screeners is that they are "non-blood draw", and can be done right in the office with a 20 minutes result turnaround. This has been a HUGE selling point with these tests because the basic problem with most individuals that come into the office that are found positive for the Hep C and HIV antibodies, never get treated! They visit, have blood drawn, leave the office, office calls 2 days to 2 weeks later with results, and those infected individuals never come back in to start treatment...and continue to infect others they come in contact with sexually!

Hep C especially, a deadly disease as it can lie dormant in the body for YEARS and the individual has no idea they even have it! Thus...they are risking exposure to every individual they come in contact with. The numbers are staggering on all infected individuals to Hep C in the world...more than 3 times as many as are infected with HIV! Let's all make sure we keep not only ourselves safe, but everyone else we meet.....stay safe and get tested!
