Default . . . but seriously folks

Allow me to get serious. Does anyone listen to NPR? Houston public radio? Apparently we have more brothels than Starbucks.

This is an old subject or topic of discussion, but while I was listening today I heard the latest.

Yes, and interesting post.
Texas is a lousy forum for the little guy (or young gal) who "gets screwed." I would be shocked if the case survived a pre-trial motion called a Motion for Summary Judgment, meaning it never gets to a jury. Hell, I've seen cases where the court over-ruled the jury's decision after the fact, always reversing a favorable judgment for the little guy. Why even bother with a jury trial, you know?

Oh, my, by lawyer logic, then, every location a provider's ever visited can possibly be held as complicit in the promotion of prostitution. That's going a wee bit far. How does the suit propose to determine what an owner/manager/staffer knew? I can understand the argument against Backpage (thinly-veiled escort listings) and the Palace Inns (rent by the hour), but the case seems pretty nebulous for Hyatt and Love's.

Maybe if the profession was legalized and regulated, attention and resources could be directed against trafficking and underage exploitation where it rightly belongs, and not on the activities of consenting adults even if in a truck stop parking lot? Perhaps some individuals need to take more responsibility for their own actions and stop blaming others for bad decisions, or at least lay the fault closer to home and not on the
ubiquitous publishing and hospitality industries?

Won't hold my breath.

As a layman, (seriously, no pun intended) I'm here to learn and impart whatever information I know. I have no idea about the legal intricacies of this. Just wanted to put this out there.

Maybe this is a topic for the Legal forum.

Would be an excellent topic there, indeed. Lots of implications to be debated. Boards like ECCIE should take note IF the case goes to verdict.

By that logic they should also be suing Walmart and Target for supplying the truck drivers with sleeper cabins. Because you know those drivers get lonely on the road and what else are they gonna use those perfectly good air conditioned cabs for.

Yeah! And they sell condoms and lube, too, and we all know who uses those, don't we? Definitely not decent folk procreating as God intended.
