Default 100k M1 Garands to be released

https://bearingarms.com/patrick-r/20...o-be-released/

would love to own one of those classic babies!

I'm surprised that South Korea and Philippines have a lot of M1 loaners in stock.

SK was going to get rid of theirs as they have the largest stockpile of M1s of any nation but legislative snafu prevented it.

this is the organisation handling these rifles.

I'll take a wild guess and say on average about 1200 bucks.

The last time I looked, it was 600-1200, depending on condition.

You have to belong to a gun club, or other organized programs, to get one. That is a problem for me since I live in the sticks.

Be aware that you can't shoot commerical 30 06 ammo in them(they will break). You have to use the military surplus ammo.

I have my own Garand and I am the only one to shoot it. It came from an estate sale from a collector. It was still filled with cosmoline and had to be cleaned. Made in 1947 by International Harvested which means it is rarer than many others.

had to look this stuff up. sounds like nasty brown shit.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cosmoline

During Pacific island campaigns in World War II, the United States Marines sang a song about cosmoline. Adapting the popular big-band tune Tangerine they would sing “Cosmoline…keeps my rifle clean"

Tangerine

can't find the cosmoline lyrics, anyone hear of it?

procedure on how he cleaned cosmoline from his 74 year old rifle.

I have to give props to these guys at CMP. They have the most dirtiest job of cleaning rifles.

When CMP mentioned cleaning and repairing rifles, I thought that meant cleaning rifles with rust and dirt. It wasn't until Barleycorn mentioned cosmoline that I understood what they meant by cleaning.

I wonder if Mike Rowe's Dirty Jobs did a segment on cleaning guns!

checked... looks like his show never did it.

They probably couldn't come up with enough of a " donation " to the Clinton Money Laundering " Foundation " and couldn't afford a $500,000 " speaking fee ' for her perjuring, disbarred sexual predator husband !

If you don't mind me asking, what year and how much did you pay for it? I assume you meant International Harvester. I didn't know that Singer made arms also to help the war effort.

"with the right ammo" I can understand the fascination with old guns but some folks are paying an outrageous premium. Then again some people will pay >$500 for a driver that nets them an extra 5 yards.

I was at the Chalmet gun store which is near New Orleans. A woman came into the store and asked the owner if he bought guns. He'd have to look them. A number of us went out to her station wagon and she three Garands, a couple of Mausers, some Enfields, and some Arisakas. Other odds and ends. He named a price, she said yes. He unwrapped a Garand from the brown wax paper and I asked how much. He thought a second and 625. I pulled the bills out of my pocket without a second thought.
