Dick Morris said that the next President of the United States was on that stage.

Question 1: Did anyone watch?

Question 2: Does anyone care?

I didn't and I don't. Just wondering about the rest of you.

Well COG, as a MIDDLE-OF-THE-ROAD registered Republican, I can tell you that everyone got applause at one time or another. Why? Because, they were saying things the audience wanted to hear, stayed away from the really tough questions and danced around when John King pressured them to commit to something out of their comfort zone. Even a moderate-middle-of-the-road Democrat would have agreed with some of their answers. They were smart enough not to eliminate themselves so early in the campaign, so they kept to standard Republican answers from the playbook. They played into the minds and so called values of the Republican dominated audience.

If Dick Morris REALLY believes that one of those folks on that stage is going to be the next President of the United States, then he's either got the IQ of a moron, he's a dumber ass than I originally thought he was, or he's the most optimistic Republican on this Earth. Obama will really have to try to lose this election. I did get a chuckle from Michelle "Miss Tea Partier" Bachman though. Obama has just about done everything the Tea Party has demanded and she's up there crying about Obama's leadership. I came to Kansas City from Minneapolis in 2005 and I can tell you that Bachman and Palenty are not qualified to be President. Governor Palenty talks a good talk, but Minnesota is broke and struggling, all Minnesotans except the super wealthy are struggling that is. Believe it or not, Ventura was better than he.
I voted for Obama because he said he would bring home our troops from both Iraq and Afghanistan. He has done neither. Our military brothers and sisters are still getting killed in Iraq. He learned he couldn't shut down Gitmo, he promised the Bush tax cuts would go and he just commited to extend them another two years. Also, the main reason he beat McCain was JOBS, JOBS and JOBS. There are other promises he made, but I think you get my point, whether you agree with me or not. I will probably vote GOP in 2012 as it stands now, but I honestly don't see any of those seven people presenting a strong challenge to Obama. The Paul Ryan plan isn't workable as is written and that's all these folks have as a foundation. Remember Dick Cheney said in his first term as Vice President that "Deficits don't matter." Now that's all we hear about today. All this is my Humble Opinion. Go ahead and have at it. Shoot me with lettuce, cabbage, tomatoes, etc. ...............LOL

1. Yes I watched part of it. My eyes crossed and I got bored/stupefied about halfway through. I was surprised that Bachmann actually impressed me with a few of her responses. I've never been particularly impressed with her up to this point. She has 0.00% chance of even winning a primary, but I've revised my opinion of her slightly. I was again impressed with Herman Cain, but am again not particularly optimistic about his chances. If I had to guess, I'd say Romney probably hs the best shot unless Rick Perry gets off the fence and throws his hat in the ring.

2. Did the debate matter? Not really. It was a long list of talking points, and short on substance, as expected. The debates will get considerably more contentious as primary season nears.

N2 - Don't worry, I won't throw anything at you. Well, perhaps my boobies, but only if you ask nicely *smile* I disagree that Obama would have to try to lose the election though. If we don't see a real decline in unemployment before 2012, I think his chances of winning re-election will become very slim. Its the only reason I'm paying such close attention to the GOP debates. I do believe there is a pretty good chance we'll be seeing our next President up there.

I noticed that LongerMonger is pretty judgemental considering. Morris was a democrat when he sucked toes.

I did watch the debate and it was fairly bloodless. Everyone sounded good but I think some more people were just introduced to Herman Cain. I didn't like that last question; Obama or McCain? Who made the better choice of a running mate? That came from CNN and has nothing to do with this election. They were just looking for a comment or broadside at Palin.

Still to early for any of this to make any difference. Obama has said that his family would not mind if he didn't run again. So is he preparing to drop out and preserve his winner status? Biden? Pelosi? Hillary? Weiner????

Dick Morris is/was not a Democrat. He and David Gergen were advisors to Clinton to help him work toward the center.

he is a professional political advisor without any real political affiliation. He's worked for both Clinton and Trent Lott. His main tool is polling everything under the sun from cutting taxes to going to war and basing his advice on what the public will buy.

Who cussed him out for losing an election? Clinton

Morris is a hired gun assuming the party of his employer irregardless of how he votes. Just like some providers are your GF after the money changes hands. Does it matter who she is thinking of while you are getting off? For your purposes, she is your girlfriend and Morris was a democrat when he promoted Clinton. You don't stick with someone for two decades of abuse if you are not a true believer.

All of you made good points- but honestly I see no way Obama loses unless the unemployment rate increases significantly which in all likelihood will not happen by Nov 2012. I think the GOP just has 2 many barriers ahead of them in such short time.
Obama will get drilled on jobs- but honestly the unemployment rate has gone down since he took over from Bush- but there's still room for improvement. The GOP can no longer bring out the "terrorsm" or national security card to play against Obama- since Obama's administration has taken out public enemy #1(Osama) and as it stands the Obama administration has already killed or captured more Al-Queada/taliban operatives than all of Bush years combined.
The point I am going to look at is how we create jobs- I don't think the GOP can get away with-if I am elected we are going to have low unemployment rate-etc- American needs blueprints on how this will happen not just cheap political talk. I think Romney will get the nod- but again- how is he going to combat against Obamacare?

None of those on the stage are going to be able to accomplish what needs to be done if we are going to avoid collapse. I really don't see much difference between Romney and President Obama.

My prediction? FWIW, Gov. Rick Perry will be the nominee and the next President. God help us. I'm not in favor of this, but that's my prediction.

I live in Texas and no way I see that happening- in order for someone to beat Obama- that have to be somewhere in the middle- you can't be a GOP and be too much to the right. By any means- Gov Perry is way to the right- this is a Gov who wanted to secede from the Union just 3 years ago and he will not get too many latino or African American votes. I think some of Perry's views are too extreme for the Independents.
Also, what is so great about Perry? Look at Texas education record- it's 44th in the nation because he destroyed the system. Also, Texas doesn't have a surplus like many sources have said- in fact Texas has a 15 billion dollar shortfall. Ask any Texas resident how they are enjoying the property tax increase made by Perry.
Trust me if Perry wins the GOP nod- Obama would destroy him- Perry would just win Texas and a few other states- the GOP needs to groom a candidate that is a centralist and that can pull a lot of independent voters and I am sorry Perry is not that person.

I did not see the debate, too early to take these seriously. Especially when the stage is so crowded. Just looking at the candidates, Barry has no worries at this point, as early as it may be. If jobs and the economy improve, slight as it may be, he gets reelected easily. If there is a slight dip in either, he still wins, but it will be closer.
The more familiar republican names are retreads, the rest too new to be taken seriously.
