The only reason I know anything about him or even know his name or that he even existed among the thousands of other basketball players in the world is from his 2003 sexual assault case that was all over tv.

Other than that, he was just a basketball player who was killed in a helicopter crash with 9 other people including a full family.

Moved to Sandbox, not hobby related

Sports talk radio in DFW was sucking Kobe's dick all day. He was not an icon of any sort. Cuban retiring his number is utter bullshit.

I remember that gold digger back in 2003, she got some kobe beef, then hit the jackpot suing him! I remember her having vaginal swelling. Duh!

I see you guys are not sports fans, go read up on his accomplishments on and off the court.

I can’t understand why the Mavs, or any team other than the Lakers, would retire his number.

Kobe was this generations of players Jordan, he was somebody important in the NBA, a mentor to a lot of players in the league now, nobody that has accomplished so much in the sport has ever died young

He had the Jordan assassin mentality when it was game time, there's only a handful of players like him left today

I'll cast my vote for Miguel Villalon as a good man more deserving of our thoughts and prayers
