A 54-year-old New Jersey woman suffered a broken leg after she was thrown to the ground in a Staples by another customer whom she had told to wear a mask, authorities said.
Police have released surveillance video from the incident that occurred at about 3:19 p.m. Wednesday at a Staples in Hackensack.
Margot Kagan, of Teaneck, told police she was using a fax machine at the store when a woman with a mask pulled down below her mouth approached a machine next to her. Kagan, who, according to police, had a liver transplant four months ago and was walking with a cane, told the woman to put her mask on.
"The suspect became angry and yelled at the victim, who picked up her walking cane and pointed it directly at the suspect, coming within inches of the suspect's chest," said Capt. Darrin DeWitt, a detective with the Hackensack Police Department.
The woman then yelled at Kagan, violently threw her to the ground and left the store, DeWitt said.
Kagan was taken to a hospital where she was diagnosed with a fractured left tibia, according to DeWitt.
this story will either be SCRUBBED from the internet in less than 72 hours OR they will find some way to vilify the WHITE woman who was assaulted by the BLACK suspect.
so what's the bet here? scrubbed or find a way to smear the WHITE person?

It is pretty bad if you do that to someone with a cane. It's not like that lady swung her cane at her. She was probably just scared and wanted to keep her away because the lady looked pretty aggressive when she approached her. She was obviously just a fragile lady if she has a fucking cane. That wasn't necessary. If you don't like that she is not wearing a mask, simply keep your distance from her and go about your business. That's just my opinion though.

We are not here to read your opinions, sir. We're here just for the facts. Facts. Get that?
If you are walking with a cane, it's probably not a good idea to tell someone else what to do, and get into a confrontation. At that point in your life/health, you need to go tell the management and have them enforce the mask policy. They can probably find this person, but after that cane was raised, there's a good case for self-defense IMHO, given blunt-force objects like canes can be considered "deadly weapons" in New Jersey.
SecretE, you definitely interpreted that video a lot differently than I did. A jury will have the final say about it so I won't argue with you about it. The woman with the cane did not initiate the aggression to me and she was probably scared that she was going to get her ass kicked... I get your point though.

in general i'll agree. however these days with the panic of the death virus it's clear the older lady was just trying to keep this woman away in case she did have the virus.
without that this likely wouldn't have happened.

The lady who threw the lady to the ground will be arrested. She grabbed the cane. Her finger prints are on it. Those are the facts.

if you go to the Uboob page of that video you'll see many comments deriding the staff for not acting to prevent the incident. there are two staff in close proximity. they did nothing. didn't even attempt to detain the assailant.
you can't make that case as the assailant moved toward the woman in a threatening matter and while there is no audio i'm quite sure her tone was hostile. the woman's right to prevent an assault overrides your argument.

Of course the staff should be derided (and possibly disciplined/fired), and the location should be fined/penalized for violating state mandate (whether you agree with it or not), along with the unmasked lady herself. The cane lady initiated the incident and was technically "armed". Not a good look.

if by saying "you need to wear a mask" is reason to be assaulted then the situation is being misinterpreted. and why did the staff even allow this woman in if she wasn't properly wearing her mask? that's yet another factor in favor of the woman who was assaulted. as it is Staples stands likely to get their corporate ass sued off for even allowing that woman in the store
New Jersey already had a "masks required" in stores before this .. meaning it was law when this woman pulled down her mask in clear violation of the law.
now NJ is making masks a requirement OUTDOORS too .. if social distancing can't be maintained.
New Jersey issues statewide order to wear face masks outdoors
bottom line most (all) of the factors favors the assaulted woman. it was law to have a mask on, she had the right to protect herself from exposure. the staff was negligent. all the black woman has is racism.
no way this woman who was assaulted does not win this issue.
