Default Targeted tariffs and other retaliation against U.S.

Which Canadian and Chinese retaliatory tariffs and other actions do you feel are the most potentially impactful?

https://www.nbcnews.com/news/world/t...ffs-rcna194645

We know that Canada focused on various ag, energy and red state cashmakers

China seems to be taking a specific and measured approach.

Mexico is taking its time and plans to unveil on Sun

This one makes me sad

The culmination of all the tariffs is gonna hurt the USA biggly.
Once again. Trumpfs games will cause record inflation. Inflation has increased in the past month. These tariffs are already affecting consumers here.

Brown Forman has stated that the boycott will be far worse than a tariff.

Other Kentucky distillers agree

I know Canadians and they are all in on giving the orange ass the finger. Will take a while for the effects to be felt but they are like the easy going calm kid in school...slow to anger but when you get them there be ready for it to last.

What dummy Trump fails to understand is that we are not a self-sufficient country. We cannot just bully other countries to get them to do what he wants. Yeah, they need us, but we certainly need them too unless you want inflation to skyrocket and livelihoods to suffer while they tell the bully to fuck off and stick up to him.

He has no realistic plan which is why he had to roll these auto tariffs back for a month. Guess what? He is going to have to roll them back again because what in the hell can you do in a damn month if you are a a GMC or a Ford, and you heavily depend on parts from foreign countries to have reasonable margins?

Trump is like a damn comic book, and I've always hated comic books even when I was a kid because they are unrealistic and stupid to me, just like Trump and his bad tariff nonexistent plan.... it will be funny having to watch him back track on his tariff bullshit when he gets the middle finger from these countries.

Go on a buying spree and try to frontload, and maybe wait out the bullshit. But that ties up capital in inventory you may have panic purchased at higher cost if the tariff perpetually gets can kicked.

And you'll have priced that in.

But let's focus on what Canada’s retaliatory tariffs and actions mean for us. We're not just looking at an immediate loss of market share in a very important industry in some red states. There's unintended consequences if we think about the full scope of Canadians taking Bourbon off the shelf and not just slapping on a tariff.

How can you afford to pay for 4 years of inventory? And how will your suppliers provide it before April when tariffs kick in? Or now if you buy from China or you’re not an auto manufacturer and buy from Mexico or Canada?

Trump’s foolishly hyper focused on bilateral trade deficits. The deficit with Canada just might grow instead of shrinking because of his tariffs and insults. He’d undoubtedly prefer a more conservative government in Canada but has managed to rally Canadians around Trudeau’s party.

Like I said in another thread, he’s not the brightest bulb on the planet. But I sure do like what he’s managed to kick start in Ukraine.

Depends on what you're buying. And then what you can source elsewhere, not just move production to the U.S. You can potentially play the tariff avoidance game for awhile. Having frontloaded inventory given you more time to find other options

Trumpf is getting spanked in the tariff game.
He's been schooled by Canada and Mexico. Causing prices to rise and rising inflation.
China is just sitting back and laughing.

I guess you can just pay the tariff until your suppliers build new factories in Vietnam. But then what happens when Trump places new tariffs on Vietnam?

There’s going to be a lot of stranded capital resulting from Trump’s trade war.

That's the game of global whack-a-mole that is tariff avoidance.

And how you start with a bilateral trade war and move to a global one.

Record inflation? Biden and Carter can only hope but not very damn likely.

Correctamundo, the bold text. Now I don't view China as an enemy, but if you do, this is a hell of a way to play your cards. I thought Trump made a mistake in preventing ratification of the Trans Pacific Partnership, which promoted trade and excluded China. But this takes the cake. Reserving the harshest tariffs for Canada and Mexico! He should want them on his side, if he believes the USA is in some kind of existential economic struggle with China.
