They keep telling us that illegal aliens do not get medical services paid for by the US taxpayers... why then would Michigan file a lawsuit to prevent sharing citizenship information from their healthcare data? I mean, by law illegals can't be in that database...

The OP is misrepresenting this document.

The purpose is of this is two-fold:

1) Medical records (called "beneficiary level" in the above notice) are private by FUCKING FEDERAL LAW. This reminds everyone of that. There is a current legal fight ongoing about whether DHS/ICE can get and use this data, as stated in the first sentence. It has yet to be determined. Meanwhile, they ain't giving this shit out. Normal people would support that until the courts decide.

2) To make sure that people who need medical care do not avoid getting it because of fear of DHS/ICE. Normal people think it is a good idea for people to get necessary medical care, regardless of other circumstances.

But I'm sure that I am wrong here and will be corrected shortly, about both the legal facts and the moral opinion.

I believe you're right Mort. This is all about informing healthcare providers that they are NOT allowed to share patient data with ICE. As they shouldn't be. But sometimes, like an e-3 on the line, you need to be reminded to disobey an unlawful order. To provide that info is absolutely illegal.

Honestly though...who cares if illegal immigrants get healthcare services? I don't. If all our people are taken care of, then I guess that means we have such a overflowing abundance of resources that we can hemorrhage some healing to others without affecting our own good fortune. Good. More good for more people is good. More healthy people is a good thing. Hope that's not controversial.


And don't tell me we don't have enough resources to go around. If our people aren't all taken care of, that's definitely not because the immigrants are taking up resources. That's a crock of BS so don't even try to claim it. It means we have much bigger issues to fix that illegal immigrants don't influence.

No. myself and others here contend there is no way for an ILLEGAL to pay their fair share. it's IMPOSSIBLE by definition. they get the benefits of a citizen without paying the real fair share of a tax paying citizen. they get more out than they put in no matter how much bread and beer they buy at piggly wiggly. or houses or cars. there is no legal way an ILLEGAL can pay taxes, NONE!.

This issue is complex. But the statement that illegal immigrants can’t pay taxes is both false and ignorant. Every body pays taxes in the form of tariffs, sales, property taxes, and if they are using a forged SSN in the form of FICA and payroll taxes.

An argument can be made that illegal immigration can cost the taxpayers more in the short run in the form of subsidies like education for their children or snap benefits for their families. But immigrants are incredibly hard workers, they emphasize education for their families, and they are willing to do the work necessary to get their children to succeed.

In the long run immigrants are absolutely a net positive for our country our economy and our society.

So no Democrats aren’t lying.
