Midterms may not be big blue wave after all, new poll shows
Midterms may not be big blue wave after all, new poll shows
The 2026 midterms may not be shaping up to be a wipeout for the Democratic Party, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll released Thursday.
The Reuters/Ipsos poll found that 46% of Americans aged 50 and older — who tend to participate more in non-presidential elections than younger voters — said they were planning to vote for the Republican candidate in their congressional district in the midterms. Meanwhile, just 38% of U.S. voters aged 50 and up said they intend to vote for a Democratic congressional candidate, according to the survey.
The newly released survey “shows there is still a lot of work ahead for Democrats to unify their base and to demonstrate they can meet the moment,” Joel Payne, a longtime Democratic strategist, told Reuters.
In December 2021, older U.S. voters favored Republicans by 43%, compared with 42% who viewed Democrats more favorably, Reuters reported. Comparatively, Democrats notched a lead among older Americans during the same month ahead of the 2018 election, 40% to 38%, according to Reuter

LOL!
Why wouldn’t that demographic break that way? You I know, if you narrowed it down to 50+ white Trump voters, you might find the disparity even greater.
And overall?? I don’t think you want to go there, bb.
Looking for a ray of hope, eh? Don’t blame you.

There will be no "blue wave" next November. Republicans will hold the Senate although they will probably lose seats.
In the House, the Republican margin is 219-212 with 4 vacant seats, 3 expected to go Democrat and 1 Republican in upcoming special elections. So going into the November elections Republicans should have a 220-215 margin. Democrats need to flip just 3 Republican seats to gain control.
There are many sources predicting the outcome in the House. This one has Democrats going into the election with a 62.2% chance to take control of the House with 227 seats. This is less seats flipping than is normal in mid-term elections.
A lot can happen in the next 11 months but right now voters seem to be unhappy with the Trump administration.

Personally, I don't care about any wave of any colour.
As long as people stop dicking around with the gerrymandering and let the voters will prevail.

First rule of the blue wave: you don't talk about the blue wave.
Dems need to put bill after bill out there helping Americans with their very real problems, go for discharge petitions on every single one of them, and make the maggies vote against 'em, one and all.

You are 100% correct.
Trump realized that the odds of Republicans maintaining control of the House in 2026 were very slim based on recent elections and polls (yes, Trump follows polls very closely) so he came up with the brilliant idea to get red states to redraw their districts in their favor, starting with Texas. Of course, Abbott bent the knee to Trump and drew up new congressional districts that diluted the Black and Hispanic vote and gave Republicans possibly 5 additional House seats. Other states, both red and blue followed suit and redrew districts. Thank you Indiana for standing up to Trump. Sorry situation.

The Indiana republicans who voted against mid decade redistricting are heroes.
Trump is now vowing revenge.
At some point, the people of the US will, in unity, move to end this lunacy once and for all.
And, at the end of the day, voters will run MAGA out of town, regardless of how they try to redraw the lines.

It doesn't really matter. "Red Wave, Blue Wave" it's like running from a Lion to a tiger the outcome is the same.

Not at all.
Anarchy, as Levi appears to advocate, is never a solution.
It’s nearly 2026. Aren’t enough caves and Cold War fallout bunkers to go around.
We are responsible for our own fate and must act responsibly.

Trump won the election fair and square. The term is four years. He is done in 2028. Then the voters will have to elect someone else. That is the system! We let the last administration go and execute their policies. Now it is this administrations turn. That is the system!
Maybe if the “resistance “ just tried to see another point of view and stopped trying so hard to roadblock another way, the country could heal.
Every four years there is the chance to change directions! Not every minute of an existing administration! That is the system! Voters have to be respected!

You can vote any way you like nothing ever really changes. It's just an illusion of change.
