The holiday season can bring out the best of people. This year's heartwarming story involves the proliferation of "layaway angels" who pay off the layaway items of total strangers. Just in Kmart stores alone, almost half a million dollars of such anonymous donations have been received.

That story on the news inspired me to try this at a local Walmart. I wasn't going to go too far, just see if there was some toys that needed to be taken care of. The lady was rude and said there's a cutoff date of the 16th or something for them to be paid off. The way I was treated for trying to do something nice was odd. Maybe her holiday season wasn't going to be too great either. I just shook my head and left.
