Default Chick-fil-A? yes, no, maybe

not sure what I should do,,

I support Gay Marriage, I support gay rights, bi's, TG, etc.. I am all for equal rights in this area.

But I dont really care what Don Cathy's personal beliefs are, he makes some damn good chicken!! if you believe marriage is man/woman only so be it..

I dont eat at Chic-fil-A that much, about 5 times a year, I kind of torn between food and my own values, but when I found out Chic-fil-A donates millions of dollars to fight against gay equality that bugs me...

so for now I am sitting on the fence until further information is gathered, but leaning toward banning them,

Personal beliefs are fine, I have several friends that I don't see eye to eye with on political issues, doesn't make a diff to me. I have not done my research here, but I'm just assuming a lot of CFA's are franchise... I'm all for gay rights, but if I want some chicken and it's there, I will buy it. Corps making huge donations politically is not a new thing. I will not go out of my way for Chick-fil-a, but I'm not boycotting either. If I boycotted every biz that had beliefs other than mine, hell, I'd be one lonely "chick"

For myself, I have decided to no longer eat at Chick-Fil-A. I will miss it, because
it's one of the few places I trust to grab a quick bite. I appreciate the healthier
items on the menu, and to be honest, some of the best milk shakes ever!

I respect the owners right to donate their earnings to any group they wish. The
problem is, their earnings come out of my pocket, and now knowing who it is they choose to donate to, it is a complete conflict with my own values. I will not
support any group or that spreads a message of hate. The groups Chick-Fil-A donates to are now public, and are known for their bulling tactics, and hate
speech, specifically targeted to the LGBT community.

I know most of the restaurants are owned and operated by franchises, but they
had to to the due diligence before purchase. Who the owners are, corporate ethics
where the profit is, how much and where the money is going. So no, I will
miss my club sandwiches and strawberry shakes, but I choose not to give them my money to be used as a tool
to hurt or suppress the beliefs others. We need to individually embody the change we would like to see in the world.

This was a very thoughtful article written a day or two after all of this hit the news.
I don't think I could have articulated my feelings any better.

I'm not big on any of it. Not big on eating at Chick-Fil-A, not big on hate and not big on trans genders so non of it changes my feelings a bit.

I haven't eaten at Chick-Fil-A since I was in college and a buddy worked there and could get us free or discounted food (and that is way so many decades in the past I don't even want to think about it). As a college kid, that was the only way I'd eat there. Chick-Fil-A was way more expensive for the amount of food you got than other chicken places or fast food joints. So, since I wasn't going to eat there anyway boycotting would be as meaningful as saying I was giving up eating cock for Lent.

But for everybody slapping themselves on the back, making them selves feel good about themselves, for blasting Chick-Fil-A, you're really not doing much. It's a fairly small company with limited market presence. There are a ton of bigger, more well known companies that are far worse than Chick-Fil-A when it comes to gay rights and/or gay marriage.

Check out this link: http://gaymarriage.procon.org/view.r...ourceID=004239
It lists 35 Fortune 500 companies that do very poorly with regard to equal rights for gays, from not paying for same-sex partner benefits, to large donations made to groups fighting gay marriage and other social issues.

Chick-Fil-A doesn't even come close to being in the same economic league as these guys. These companies do far, far more damage to gays and their fight for equality and tolerance, but I don't hear anybody threatening to boycott Exxon/Mobil (who stopped paying for partner benefits once the two companies merged), Dollar General or Family Dollar stores, KBR (a former Halliburton company), USAA (insurance and financial services), Pilgrim's Pride or Dick's Sporting Goods. And while not deemed gay-unfriendly, WalMart, Valero Energy and even Warren Buffet's Berkshire Hathaway rate low.

So, while Chick-Fil-A's Don Cathy may run his mouth openly, more and far larger companies run their business similarly but just have the sense to keep their mouths shut. To go to war against Chick-Fil-A, while, it may feel good to some, really doesn't do a whole hell of a lot. Not that someone shouldn't boycott them if their conscience compels them to. But they shouldn't kid themselves that they're making a real difference by any practical measure of effectiveness. Now, making Exxon/Mobil change their ways would be another story. But if Exxon could shake off the Valdez disaster doing the least it could ... well, let me know how things work out.

To many bigger issues/things to worry about then what some old guy with 1 foot in the grave thinks or does with his money. When he's gone someone younger and more open will step in and change company policy and so on.

This country is evolving and eventually the majority will accept/tolerate gays and gay marriage.

Things to worry about in no specific order.

Pakistan collapsing.
War/strikes on Iran.
Unemployment over 15%.
Chupacabra
SKYNET
And the possibility of Dick Cheney never dying.

It's simply a First Amendment issue. It's funny how the anti- Cathy people have turned his viewpoint into a "message of hate." It is not a message of hate. It is simply his viewpoint.

The real message of hate is from the anti- Cathy's that want to impinge on his right to make his statement; to impinge on his right to express his viewpoint.

Cathy has the right to express his viewpoint just like the anti- Cathys have their right to express their viewpoint.

The "hate" comes from the zealot, fanatical fools who say that their viewpoint is right and Cathy's viewpoint is wrong. Some even base their views on the fiction of the bible.

Being right or wrong is NOT what is important. What is important is simply the right to say it.

The Bill of Rights was constructed to prevent the dangers inherent in any democracy.

The mayors and others that said they were going to ban CFA from their cities have all retracted their ridiculous, knee jerk statements. The Constitution does not allow us to use zoning laws or other laws to impinge on Freedom of Speech. There is no backdoor here. Well, you know what I am saying...

I'm all for personal freedom just so long as it doesn't harm others. I don't have to agree with anybody 100% to associate and/or do business with them. Just so long as they don't expect me to believe the same things that they do.

This goes for religion, politics, pussy, favorite BBQ spots, etc.
