Hopefully the next service release will help when/if released. It's supposed to bring back the Start button. Windows 8 would be great if I had a touch screen - which most of the population do NOT.

Windows 8 sucks. The proposed start button in Windows 8.1 is not like the start button in previous versions of Windows. Unfortunately, if you get a new computer, you have no choice but to get Windows 8 as the OEMs will only provide Windows 8. I had invested $5.00 in a little add-on program called Start8 from Stardock http://www.stardock.com/products/start8/ that will put the actual Start button on the desktop. I then configured my startup file to always start in Desktop mode, and it works just like a Windows 7 computer desktop.

Same story. Got new one this weekend and never expected this to be so hard to adjust to. Hate this version. can Google and download program called classic shell. You might like it better.

I would strongly recommend that you check out the following link for a new Windows 8 user that doesn't like the way it looks/feels

http://reviews.cnet.co.uk/software-a...ws-7-50009546/

also I installed a small program called Classic Shell that puts the Windows Start button in the lower left.

I got mine and nearly flipped out! I was so lost and confused and I became a little cranky. Okay, a lot cranky! I think windows 8 is ridiculous. Glad it's rectified for me now. Thanks to a friend of mine who had his IT person fix it to what I was used to (windows 7 desktop). No more dealing with the 'tiles'. Have my start button on lower left.

Great link KCguy. Glad to know I'm not the only person who dislikes windows 8. I thought it was just me who doesnt like change.

bikebryan, what is a service release?

I agree the Macs are better now. But Apple is sure proud of them. The low end MacBook (the equivalent of a Windows net book) is $800. A full featured Windows PC is under $350. That $800 is out of many people's price range. With the backlash to Windows 8, Apple is missing a real opportunity to grab market share by not having a full featured offering at a lower price point.

I bought a new computer with Windows 8 on it. Fired it up and didn't have a clue where to start. Tried to load some programs on it and they wouldn't run. Not going to update the software because the cost is substantial and I like what I have. The new computer went back into the box it came in and will probably never be used. I'll use the old computers with XP on them until they or I die.

Hey Kaylen, not sure about Windows 8 as I use 7. However, here is a link that can help turn back win8 to the look and feel of win7.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5N1J5PZ-9zg

Looks like he installed an app called "classic shell" and it helped immensely.

Here is the second link he updated six months after with some other tweaks on the "classic shell" app.

Hope this helps.
