Maybe it wasn't the immediate cause of her death, but I'm sure that years of drug abuse was a significant contributor.

Best rendition of the National Anthem I have ever heard was sung by her before Super Bowl XXV in 1991.

Unfortunately I know all too well the depths of addiction and the issues that go with it. Even had she been clean(and reports seem to be saying she was having issues) it has such long fingers and it follows you wherever you go(as you noted). Prayers to her family and to those that loved her.

Sorry I have no sympathy for someone who has the world at their feet and pisses it all away.

So sad to hear of her passing today.
Certainly not what I was expecting to hear on the news today.
Had to sit back and collect my thoughts for a while.

RIP Whitney.

As I told a friend of mine tonight at dinner, "I liked Whitney back in the day, but she choose to take the road of self destruction. Her family, friends and fans have no one to blame but Whitney herself. Mean of me to say? Maybe, but the truth isn't always sweet to hear."

I'm not heartless, as I've dealt with many folks who've had drug problems. But, with all her money and support system, rehab was at her fingertips at all times. She should've surrounded herself with people who lifted her up instead of bringing her down and keep feeding her drugs.

All the money, friends, etc., can't save someone from themselves. She was going to continue with her behavior until she decided it was time to change her life. You can't do it for anyone else or any other reason but to make yourself well and save your life. It's unfortunate but more don't get better than those that do.

This is exactly true and it is also the reason I have no sympathy for her, just as I did not have any for Winehouse. Sometimes the consequences of once actions are harsh and brutal.

I understand peoples different perspective on this, so I can only speak for myself. This death really saddens me. Such a beautiful woman with a golden voice. I'm not going to get into why she died, and if she brought it on herself.

Personally, I think she was the greatest female singer of our time, and one of the best ever. I know Dolly wrote this song, and performed it damn good back in the day...but Whitney singing this song, wow, just doesn't get any better than this.

R.I.P. Whitney, you were a true beauty and will be missed.

It is a sad situation..still, I refuse to mourn celebs who have had 0 impact on my life and chose to to self destruct. They are surrounded by an entourage paid to look out for their best interest, yet they destroy themselves anyway, agains any advice and guidance they receive.
