Handy Man, Husband for the Day NEEDED!

I can't believe I've been here a week! Still have a lot to do to settle in, have to paint my room and could use some help, if someone is good at painting I'm willing to work a trade! I also need carpets or carpeting, anyone out there in the carpet biz? Or want to use your credit card (in trade) to take me shopping for a room size rug? It's a small room 9x10'. I will also be in need of other handy man type things, so would love to work a deal with someone who is an all around handy type of guy with remodeling, plumbing, carpentry, etc. Will explain more when we talk.

Haha Jed :-) No, but I have got some great suggestions. So I do have to go and buy some paint and stuff so I can start getting the room painted. I want it painted by the end of this coming week! The ceiling fan, then carpet and curtains. Can't wait to have it all fresh!

				 Paint Question

So I have need to go out and get paint for a room that probably hasn't been painted in 20 yrs....(pretty dirty white is the current color!) do I use a paint/primer like I understand OlympicOne has one and also Glidden has a brand. Or if I'm going a neutral color do I need a primer at all? I'm thinking like a like ivory or sand color as the room is small and one light but colored accent/focal wall. Thoughts, guys? Thanks I appreciate all your input and help! XOXO Lee

You don't need a primer if you're going with a similar or darker color. Clean it thoroughly and if it's a gloss or semi-gloss you will need to sand it. If It's a kitchen or bathroom, it may be an oil based paint. If that's the case you will need a primer and should also go with an oil based paint as latex does not adhere well to it.

Agree with Darter, cleaning the walls is essential, use some TSP which you can pickup at any hardware store. Follow suggestions regarding oil base paints. Have fun.

Nikki, be very careful opening soliciting a "chili dog" on this site. You may get more than you bargained for!
But, so long as you don't post it in the "Another Realm" portion, I think you're safe my dear.
I hope you find someone to help you paint PrincessLee! I've done painting work in the past, and it's time-consuming and messy but probably does more to make a house look nicer than any other single upgrade.

I'd be down for this, if she didn't mind facing backwards with her legs dangling down my back... |

Thanks Darter, Aljan, that helps, I am probably going to stay a little darker than the "dirty white" it is now, I was thinking a ivory, creme, tan or sand color on three walls and one darker but still light in color, focal/accent wall. The room not being large I don't want any "dark" colors. I decided today that I need to pick out my room size rug as I want to be able to take the rug with me if I leave. I also think size I want colors in my rug that I will need to buy it to figure out what color chips of paint will match the most important thing in the room, the carpet! LOL Sometimes it takes me a while, but I figure it out. Funny the last thing that will go in the room is the first thing I need to buy! That doesn't make sense to me! LOL
