I suspect for some folks it's a chance to flex the imaginary muscles they can't see when their naked. A chance to feel like they are something, have some authority. Kind of like becoming a toll booth operator or the security guard at the county library.
But if you read other areas of the board, Mods most certainly do attempt to flex their influence into discounts. Whether the ladies offer it first or the Mod asks first I know not, but I think the expectation is some favors from the Mod with screening or should an argument get out of control on the board.
I used to have appreciation and respect for the Mods and I still do outside of our section, but its a case by case issue, a mod is just a fucktard that has more access to try and help out. In general, it should be appreciated but when one says they'll help out and then sloughs around in a lazy, unhelpful manner it actually hurts.
Highway seems engaged in it and is making a nice effort. I was willing to help out but DD has made it clear I should do the exact opposite. Sort of clear, as the motive escapes me.
It's a question like the chicken and the egg, darlin' you can wonder all day and get nowhere.
