The best KCMO has to offer
Good morning y'all
I'm Lena, a Southern based kinky and au naturale companion who gets bitten by the travel bug every couple of months or so. My mind is set on making my first ever visit to Kansas City, Missouri before Spring. Where should I go to get the best first impression of Kansas City? Both in terms of an ideal and convenient general vicinity to stay in. And also, what attractions should I go see while in town? When traveling, I can be such a quintessential nerdy tourist. I'm a history and culture buff and love going about town capturing memories with my dinky point and shoot camera. Oh, and I've heard y'all have set the bar high when it comes to legit BBQ!

Lena - Hope your trip to Kansas City is enjoyable, both from a "work" perspective and as a nerdy tourist!
Dallas Rain is our designated "provider's travel agent", who can privately provide you with some awesome suggestions/advice on your trip, where best to stay, etc.
And all of us will chime in on other things to do, to see, to eat...
My short list for a history/cultural buff would include visits to:
World War I Museum
Union Station
Nelson-Atkins Museum
Negro League Baseball Museum
Enjoy your trip, Lena!

Good suggestions here. I'd also suggest a downtown or plaza location, as they are central to the rest of the city and provide plenty of cultural/dining/shopping options.
As for BBQ, there are a few spots that should be on your list:
Arthur Bryant's and Gates (these are the classics, have been around pretty much since BBQ was invented)
Jack Stack
Q39
Char Bar
The list goes on, but those are the best ones that are near the areas I suggested. Enjoy your visit!

And isn't there a Gus's really close to Joe's? Like right next door? Both convenient to midtown/Plaza area, Lena, if that's where you land.

Gus's is right next door and damn good, but it's not local. Chain out of Memphis I think.

Gus's chicken rocks. For more authentic KC chicken, go for Go Chicken Go.
For the best burger, Westport Flea Market.
