I will always remember him as Tom Hagen Lawyer/Consigliere in The Godfather movies.

I never did watch Lonesome Dove.

Just check out this cast list:

I had forgotten most of the famous actors who were in it. I remembered Duvall, Tommy Lee Jones and Diane Lane (playing a fetching prostitute!).

Maybe my favorite actor of all time. He had the ability to fully embrace the characters he played which was clearly obvious to his fans and earned him respect both from his peers and from critics.

A true American icon. His career started off slow and then just took off in his 40's, starting with his role in the Godfather.

He had the ability to play larger than life characters and burn them into your brain such as The Great Santini and Lt.Col. Kilgore in Apocalypse Now. But he was also great in costar and supporting roles, and some of my favorites were Colors, True Grit and Falling Down.

It appears he died from simply being 95 years old. I'm happy that he went out that way. May he rest in peace.
