The "mess" in California has restored my faith in politicians. Or at least I don't think they're as dumb as I used to.

The dumb ass Democrats and dumb ass Republicans constantly try to get an edge in elections. The reason they're dumb asses is because lately they do the opposite of what makes sense.

The Republicans want to ban barbecue and beer in election lines and 24 hour polling sites. The Democrats want to mass mail ballots to everybody and his dog.

Implicit in this is the belief that Republicans are more motivated to go to the polls than Democrats. So the Democrats want to make it easy as pie to vote and the Republicans want to make it HARD.

Well, since the 2020 election and the fiasco at the capitol on January 6, it's the Democrats who are more motivated to jump through hoops to vote. They're mad as hell and not going to take it anymore because they believe Trump tried to steal the election.

Your typical Republican Millenial voter these days is some guy living in his parents' basement who plays video games all day. Your Democrat millenial on the other hand is a social worker who's damn sure going to make sure she votes because she thinks if she and like minded people don't the USA will become a fascist state. You saw this play out in 2022, the recent Wisconsin supreme court election, etc. Democrats are the ones going to the polls. They don't need barbecue and beer anymore. The Republicans are the ones now who won't cast a vote unless they can insert them into postage paid envelopes and happen to walk by mailboxes.

Well, what's going on in California has restored my faith in our political class! Now the politicians are doing what makes sense!

Congressional seats and electoral votes are apportioned based on the census. And the census counts RESIDENTS, not citizens. So if California can pack itself with about 100 million illegals, Republicans can kiss the presidency sayonara! And the House too!

So the Republicans are fighting tooth and nail to get the illegals the hell out of California. They haven't wised up completely, or they'd be shipping them to red states like Texas instead of Latin America, to get more electoral votes. And have some people to work in the new factory jobs so we don't have to. But at least it's a start.

Seriously, if representation were based on the number of citizens instead of the number of residents, should the Republicans in red states give a shit how many illegals are in California? Hell no. I say let the Californians do what the Californians want to do, just as long as it doesn't affect Texans.

Texas has gained more than 4 million residents since 2010 and is the only state to gain more than one congressional seat.

On Monday, the U.S. Census Bureau announced the census data collected for 2020, which resulted in Texas gaining two congressional seats.

The distribution of 435 congressional seats based on apportionment population provided by the data collected has given Texas a new total of 38 congressional seats. The 2020 apportionment, however, saw the smallest amount of seats shifting since apportionment was adopted in 1941.

As a result of Texas gaining two congressional seats, the state will also gain 40 electoral votes for the 2024 and 2028 presidential elections. Since the last census poll in 2010, Texas has gained more than 2 million residents and is the only state to gain more than one congressional seat.


Take a look at 538 to see which states gained or lost seats during the census. I think you will see that republicans gained more from illegal immigration’s effects and the democrats lost.

Hey TxDot, ChatGPT told me Republicans would gain an estimated 2 to 5 Congressional seats and about the same number of electoral votes if the census were based on citizenship instead of residency. That was based on research by Pew and I didn't bother to verify it. Yes, Texas, like California, must punch above its weight in elections because of the undocumented immigrants.

What pisses me off most about this was I didn't know until now that you could drive down to the Home Depot and get undocumented immigrants to help you out for a day. And now they're going to shut that off! I guess I'll have to keep paying top dollar instead at the titty bar for Cubanas and Venezolanas. Wish I'd known about Home Depot before. The wenches that hung out there probably didn't have stinkin GPS.

Without those changes we might have a split congress right now.

Hard to say what the result would be. It would depend on how the districts are re-gerrymandered when seats are gained or lost.

Anyway, if blue states manage to hold onto their undocumented immigrants and red states deport theirs, Republicans will have shot them selves in the foot

Edit: one other thought. Those changes presumably occurred because people moved from California, Illinois and New York to red states. Did they vote for Dems or Republicans? If they voted predominantly for Democrats, did that increase the number of Democratic seats in red states?
