Default Kimmel Cancelation Unprecedented?

There is righteous indignation out there on ABC cancelling the Kimmel show. A lot of folks saying it is "UN-predicted!".

My recollection is that Rosanne Barr had a show called "The Conners" that was cancelled at the direction of the administration (Obama? Biden?) , I am not sure which, because Ms. Barr had made a social media post they did not like.

I think this went to the SCOTUS who upheld the cancellation.

So cancelling Kimmel is an allowable corporate action. We can debate whether or not Colbert was "cancelled" or just not renewed . . .

Are you sure the administration had anything to do with Rosanne Barr? Or are you making that up? As I recall it was her co-workers that said they wouldn't work with her any longer. But if you've other info, let's see it.

Your recollection appears to be incorrect/incomplete

“The Conners” originally debuted on ABC in 2018. It began as a revival of “Roseanne,” but following Roseanne Barr’s tweets about former Obama administration aide Valerie Jarrett, the revival was canceled. Not long after, it was announced the show would continue as “The Conners” without Barr, with her character being killed off in “The Conners” premiere episode.

The Conners was not canceled but ended after its seventh season, which consisted of a six-episode farewell event that concluded in April 2025. The decision to end the show on its own terms was made by the executive producers and the network, ABC, to go out on a high note after a successful run as the most-watched comedy on the network.

... Crikey! ... ICU's recollection was spot-on.
Thanks for showing the proof.

... Roseanne made a comment about OBama aide Valerie Jarrett
and the show was CANCELLED... Onley brought back when Roseanne
said she'd "step back" - the show continued.

... So, do ya think that maybe, just maybe Valerie and
the other OBama people put pressure on ABC to cancel it?

... Just a thought...

... Surely seem like a clear violation of Roseanne's
"Free Speech" rights - don't it? ... ...

Both Kimmel and Colbert were terrible late night talk show hosts. Both shows were leftist echo chambers of propaganda, not entertainment. It's wonderful they're gone.

So y’all just make up more lies. The administration had nothing to do with the cancellation. So both you and ICU are lying again.

Kinnel's ratings were down 43% since January.

... WRONG!

... I didn't SAY that the Administration DID.

... I ASKED if you and the others here think they put
pressure on ABC to cancel it.

... And if yer sayin' that OBama's people -
such-as Valerie Jarrett had NOTHING to do with ABC's
decision there, I surely reckon that Roseanne Barr
would disagree with you. ...

... But, the point IS - that this issue with Kimmel
surely ain't ABC's first rodeo.

Well NaCl-y, make us proud and do something that the orange one doesn't do: legwork.

And that' your opinion. It is soon approaching, if nothing stops it, that you won't be able to do that in this country without reprecussions from the goverment. Don't belive it? Just look at Russia currently. Hell, they bust you for just clicking on a link to a website which the frown on.

No. Corp america fired Roseanne. A FCC guy doing donnys bidding did so by threatening. Usually FCC will levee a fine. This overstepped free speech. As I told CPT S, in this country, the only opinion that counts is those that lockstep the administration. Moreso if it is goosestepped.

Funny how every leftist here all of a sudden is crying about "free speech" when THEY shouted down and threatened (and at times physically assaulted) conservative speakers. This had ZERO to do with free speech. And everything to do with declining ratings, massive money losses, and people sick of listening to unfunny liberal hacks.

The fact is that we’re on the downside of the slippery slope.

MAGA won’t always be in power. If we allow the government to control what content gets published then the next administration will do the same.

Then we start having the type of censorship that they have in China and Russia.

Ignoring much less cheering this type of censorship is unpatriotic in my view.

There is a difference between a political party that boycotts a tv network and using a government agency to threaten a media network.

You’ll also note that the Fox network wasn’t threatened or hurt by anyone in the Biden administration.
