After Trump's inauguration in January 2025, the investigation stalled. Trump appointees in the DOJ and FBI, including FBI Director Kash Patel and then-acting Deputy Attorney General Emil Bove, decided to close the case, stating there was "no credible evidence of any criminal wrongdoing".
