Question Need Computer Geek Advice please! :)

Hello there!

My question is simple.

I want the FASTEST most reliable wireless internet HighEST speed connection available on the market. I want it to work all over the US no matter where I travel and I NEED it to be compatible with my IP addy blocker, and other security tools.

Pocket, Cricket, Sprint, At&t= sucks! I dont like Time Warner and I believe that is based only here anyway. What else is there?

Any advice?

Thanks!

Default Wireless internet

The service you are looking for isnt quite ready for prime time...

I have an AT&T air card and it continues (after 2 years) to be SLOWWWWWW!!! Slower than dialup even...

Better idea...Find the fastest available where you live and hang out at a free wi-fi hotspot that's quick whenever you travel....Mickey D's? Or even your hotel?

However, keep an eye on Sprint. They are the first go to 4G and are backing another wireless company that is expanding very quickly across most major markets...Google it....I cant think of the name right now...

Try http://www.clear.com/....I have a friend in New Braunfels who sells this on the side....or it can be purchased online.

I agree, with the Sprint verdict. I tried TWs new WiMax network here in SA when they had a promo thing with Manu and Danica Patrick. I was impressed with the speed but they could have just set up towers around Sunset Station to make it seem super fast.

Sprint is used by many businesses one of which is Rackspace here in SA.

Oh and PSD Sprint is backing up Clear.

Yep, Clear is the company I was thinking of. Apparently insiders see Sprint's investment in Clear as old technology, but seamless access coast to coast is a damn good idea and a friend of mine in Vegas says they are a top notch company, even if Sprint has invested too much money in them...

As a laid off geek, the telecom industry sucks....I'm just sayin'....

If you are already a Verizon customer check into one of their broadband air cards. They have them for USB as well as the older PCMIA slots on a laptop. They also have devices that can fuction as a Wi-Fi hotspot that can support up to five wireless devices like laptops, smart phones, iTouch, etc. My experience with my air card so far has been quite positive. Good speed and good reliability and the most coverage in the country.

A wimax provider that has 100 percent consitency is just out of reach at the moment.
It has to do with cost/benefit ratio there really isnt a lot of money to be made deploying towers in remote low population area's typically coverage within those reigions rely on satelite but you still need a box on the ground to convert the signal and broadcast unless you want to carry a sat dish with you. Clear may not be the clear cut winner yet but it will be, verizons 4g wont be that bad either. Speed will vary based on signal strength.

Honestly the best way to be 100 percent connected is to go redudant, if you had say clear or sprint 4g thats great but it's never going to work everywhere. But you could always roll with an iphone 3gs or other mobile device that is on a different network and has the capability to be tethered. Chances are unless you are in a really really remote location that if your clear or sprint wasnt working the at%t or T-mobile network would be covering it. So just having a backup phone that has tether capability would give you a little redundancy.

I dont know of any mobile connection wich would not allow for ip add blocking, and even if so theres methods of just blocking that in a software based firewall or with another method. Dont know what your other security tools but as long as they are acting as a blacklister and only affecting traffic coming into your network there should not be any issues.

The only problem you might run into is certain ISP block ports from sending outgoing traffic, SMTP port 25 is commonly blocked for instance. But since SMTP uses multiple ports you can get around it.
