Default Syria: Someplace Else That's None of Our Business

Maybe I'm wrong, but what is the strategic importance of Syria to the US?

http://www.newsmax.com/Newsfront/rom...5/29/id/440542

It's right up there with Yugoslavia and Libya, we aren't the world's police force.

Before you leftists get started I will state that YES the oil did and does make Iraq strategically important. But Syria?

Really nothing if you are ok with demonstrators being strafed by the government.

As long as it's not our government it's not my government's business. If you think otherwise hook up and go join the resistance.

It is our business b/c American's for the most part are soft pussy whipped morons. The nightly news will show us pictures of dead children in the streets. There will be wailing and gnashing of teeth. Some whiney mother whose child was just killed will be put on camera saying, "the West needs to come and help us". We are spoonfed this shit from a media just aching to "help" Obama look like a strong military guy headed into the election. Ever since Bill Clinton sat on his hands (rightfully so) when Africans were slaughtering Africans, no American president wants to be seen sitting idly by while so-called atrocities are taking place. Mark my words, Obama will do something in Syria before November, and I hope it backfires-- just like Egypt and Libya. How did those "insurgencies" work out? So far, not in the best national interest of the United States. Lastly, this shit has been going on since recorded history. Only difference is the current 24 hour news cycle that bombards us daily with it. Oh, and does anyone really think we can make a difference? Hell no. Just accept the fact humans will do horrible things to other humans. Can't change that.

Default Odumbo's Secret Warriors

. . . . Hello imperial presidency. From a president’s point of view, one of the appealing things about special forces is that he can send them wherever he wants to do whatever he directs. There’s no need to ask permission or to explain. Employing USSOCOM as your own private military means never having to say you’re sorry. When President Clinton intervened in Bosnia or Kosovo, when President Bush invaded Afghanistan and Iraq, they at least went on television to clue the rest of us in. However perfunctory the consultations may have been, the White House at least talked things over with the leaders on Capitol Hill. Once in a while, members of Congress even cast votes to indicate approval or disapproval of some military action. With special ops, no such notification or consultation is necessary. The president and his minions have a free hand. Building on the precedents set by Obama, stupid and reckless presidents will enjoy this prerogative no less than shrewd and well-intentioned ones. . . .
