Add Facebook to the list of privacy villains, I don't like any of them but they are just getting info for advertising, it's not like they are reading the content of an email, personally tracking you or anything like that...Obviously, advertising is what the internet is all about, at least from a business perspective. I just shut down and clean up after visiting any of these sites and don't worry about it much.

Actually, they are reading content electronically and can sort it. That is what the whole NSA thing is over and the issue of Patriot Act and other subpoena power or voluntary programs, and it isn't just Google. Your cell providers are in this, too. And they are personally tracking you by everything you do electronically. Yes, it's for advertising primarily, but they can target the data tracking and compilations to order. Shutting down and cleaning up goes a way, but only if you have removed cookies, and you may not know if you do. Beyond that, it's not off your hard drive even if you erase it as metadata remains behind an erase, and the trail is backed up elsewhere in the so called cloud for the next time you logon--at least for the average user.
