Yes, I do agreed. I just spoke briefly on the phone with a lady from Animal Resources Shelter in OKC. She said that they're waiting 30 or more days so, they can give the owners to come and claim their pets. Some already came but they still housing them at the shelter as the owners are still finding a new home to goes to but some are still not yet have anyone claim

Although you do wish for a puppy, I've always adopted a slightly older dog. The last one was four years old but generally, I've adopted dogs around a year old.

Then, you know their personalities and they're past that stage of potty training and REALLY bad chewing. I know that puppies are really cute but for me, I would rather have the laid back hound that just everyone loves instead of taking a gamble.

Having an animal is such a long term commitment that even a slightly older dog has always been perfect for me.

If we're making wishes ... would someone get for me a fluffy white CAR? (I should be in KC again, soon. We could do something special for it. I will bath it and feed the car very well when it needs to be fed. Fresh water. Everything! And I'm open minded! If it's a good car and behaves well, any color will do!

How's that for a segue?

i got my puppy!!

she is 1 year old...potty trained!! maltese mix...so white with cute perky ears
only problem is she is a barker! but we love her
thanks for all the advice and support...we are one happy family now
i promise she wont bite you...but she will bark at u!! lol

Congrats on your adoption! Hopefully he/she was spayed/neutered and is up to date on vaccinations. Rabies, Parvo and so on.

It's also time to make sure you do once-monthly heartworm pills too - but only if the vet cleared him/her as being heartworm-free. I'll guarantee the worst thing in the world is seeing a dog die from heartworms. Even worse than getting hit by a car, if you can imagine that.

Not knowing your family situation, be careful introducing your new dog to young children. Fluffy little dogs can feel threatened by nieces, nephews and visitors.

I've never seen a German Shepherd or Dobie bite a litte kid, but I have seen lots of Lhasas, Bichons and Malteses do so. Just something to keep in mind.

Adopting is the way to go, most good agencies will have already had the dog checked by a vet, given their shots and if in Missouri the mandatory spay or neutering. Noah is correct the worse thing is heartworms and again most good agencies will have already had the dog tested. But make sure to give the doggie its once a month heartworm meds. I have had a lot of luck adopting, I prefer a little older dog 1 to 2 years. congrats and I hope the little one gives you years of love and enjoyment.
