This sounds like it should be a plot to a bad 80's rom-com.

Friend-zoned to me isn't being friends with someone of the opposite gender that you may not like...it's being used by said person. It's fine if you are happy being in the friend zone, but I would think that it most cases no one knows they are there and the friend-zone-er well knows they are reaping the benefits.

Usually it's not playing hard to get....it's knowingly being aloof or feigning clueless-ness to reap benefits.

It's all of the 'I gave her my heart and she gave me a pen' with none of the boombox action at the end...
