President Trump Secures Release of Three Thieving UCLA Student Athletes Arrested in China…
	Quote:

		| Posted on November 14, 2017	by sundance LiAngelo Ball, Cody Riley and Jalem Hill have embarrassed our country, our president, their school and their families. A day prior to President Trump’s arrival in China the three UCLA Bruin freshman basketball players were arrested in Shanghai, China for stealing sunglasses from a Louis Vuitton store near the team hotel.

In addition to being a national embarrassment, they were facing harsh legal consequences in China that would forever destroy their lives. However, during President Trump’s meeting with Communist Chinese President Xi Jinping, he asked for leniency.

While President Trump is en route back to the U.S. from the 12 day Asia trip, Chairman Xi Jinping has released the three thieves:

		| LOS ANGELES (AP) — Three UCLA basketball players detained in China on suspicion of shoplifting are on a plane back to Los Angeles.
Pac-12 Commissioner Larry Scott said Tuesday the matter “has been resolved to the satisfaction of the Chinese authorities.”

Freshmen LiAngelo Ball, Jalen Hill and Cody Riley were detained in Hangzhou for questioning following allegations of shoplifting last week before the 23rd-ranked Bruins beat Georgia Tech in their season-opening game in Shanghai as part of the annual Pac-12 China game. Ball is the brother of LA Lakers guard Lonzo Ball.

The rest of the UCLA team returned to Los Angeles last Saturday without the three.

There was no immediate word from UCLA on the players’ status for the team’s home opener Wednesday night against Central Arkansas.

The school said the three players, along with coach Steve Alford and athletic director Dan Guerrero, will make their first public comments about the matter on Wednesday morning in Los Angeles, but won’t take questions.

A person with knowledge of the Pac-12’s decision said any discipline involving the players would be up to UCLA. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the conference doesn’t plan any sanctions.

Scott thanked President Donald Trump, the White House and the State Department for their efforts in resolving what he called “the incident with authorities in Hangzhou, China.” He indicated that UCLA made “significant efforts” on behalf of its three players.

Trump said Tuesday he had a long conversation about the three players’ status with Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping. (read more)

Various well publicized events have made it more difficult for schools to avoid punishing athletes, and particularly when international issues are involved. It would not surprise me if there were some behind the scenes communications with the school before Trump intervened and sought their release.

Look what just happened to an Astros player for disrespecting a Japanese player for the Dodgers. He was mature enough to accept responsibility and apologize for what he did. Lets see how "mature" these 3 stooges are. If the school "double crosses" the POTUS in some agreement they are affecting ALL SCHOOLS in the future.

I agree. The three players may have to miss a game or two. I think they will be back on the court sooner rather than later. College basketball is BIG business, when UCLA has a good team all of college basketball benefits. UCLA recruited LiAngelo Ball when he was in 10th grade. I would be surprised if UCLA did not get him back on the court soon. UCLA wants to win this year.

What sports team doesn't?

If UCLA wants to contribute to the lawless reputation of college and professional sports (actually college is "professional" sports now) then they should be dismissive of the assistance of the POTUS in getting these guys back in one piece .... and hope none of their other team members for next 6-7 years get "detained" overseas.

Hey, they are the victims here, why would they be punished?
If you don't get it, stay out of it.
It may be way over your head.

Yes the victims were rescued.
The Chinese theft code has prison for up to one year for thefts of whatever with value at a bit over $100 to a bit over $4,000, more that that it's 3-4 years. Add another charge, then well...

I am constantly amused by what folks think they are entitled to here in the states. And, more amused when they travel elsewhere and have issues.

I wonder if these kids will become flag waving proud to be US citizens now that their azzes were saved. Or, if they will relish their reinforced entitlement status and do something else stupid.

Maybe we can open a betting pool on that.
