The more I delve into the lyrics of the song, the more I don't think it can be discussed here without incurring a nuclear violation. But as for the jack-knife barber I would say the meaning is deliberately obfuscated so it could mean several different things.

It is always frustrating when that happens. I suspect a lot of different reasons but my impression is that the main one is that some of them have other gigs and aren't available full time for this, so don't pay much attention to their phones on the days when they know they won't be available. Just a hypothesis about one possible reason of potentially many.

That’s what I thought also. But it has been played on classic rock stations for years. Heard it today , never heard any kinda complaints about the song. Thanks for your opinion

Yeah. I mean it's not obvious enough that I think anyone would complain about it just from hearing the song. But once you look at the lyrics for a bit you start to say "whoa...what's going on here?" Surprisingly it's the first time I've heard it. I'm usually a big classic rock guy. Never was into Jethro Tull so much though.
