Kik Messaging shutting down

Although the company hasn't said when that will happen, it will happen sooner rather than later, apparently. I've been very happy with the messaging service for several years. I'm looking for alternatives.

I don't care for SnapChat, despite its popularity, because of its immediate deletion of messages once read. I want to be able to read back through message threads, and to be able to save images and videos, which you can't do on SnapChat without jumping through some may-not-work-anyway hacks.

I've heard it will shut down this Friday.

I never used it so it does not affect me but I know many people that do use it and are going to miss it.
