If Kimmel's show had ratings as low as "The Aprentice" , the execs at Walt Disney would not put it back on the air.
Colbert got axed because of politics, he was anti Trump. The company that owns CBS wants to do a big merger that has to be approved by a Trump appointee. Waco, you are slipping a little. Have a nice day.

CBS merger was well under way and the deal finished in July 2025 Colbert was axed the same month July 17, 2025
The merger between Skydance and Paramount Global was announced on July 7, 2024
Paramount Global, the parent company of CBS, was acquired by Skydance Media in a deal approved by the FCC in July 2025 and finalized on August 7, 2025. The merger was approved 2-1 by the FCC after Skydance and Paramount provided assurances about their commitment to unbiased journalism at CBS, including the appointment of an ombudsman to address bias concerns.
they axed Colbert because he was bleeding cash and he was a money loser, that is called .. cutting costs
Colbert is not a news show. his show getting cancelled had nothing to do with the merger.
Disney owns ABC. the merger is between one of their affiliates, which Disney/ABC DOES NOT own.
Nexstar Media Group agreed to acquire TEGNA Inc. in a $6.2 billion deal announced in August 2025, which awaits Federal Communications Commission (FCC) approval. This transaction, which would give Nexstar even more ownership of local television stations in the U.S., has faced opposition, including from conservative groups and some Democrats, but the FCC chair has expressed openness to changing the rules limiting station ownership
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nexstar_Media_Group
Kimmel getting suspended had nothing to do with Nexstar's merger it was about complains to Sinclair and Nexstar by their viewers.

The Apprentice blew Kimmel's rating out of the water. Disney in no bastion of prowess. They pretty much lick the underwear of the far left commies and it shows in their many and repeated failures.
As to the ratings of the late night shows:
It doesn't take someone with a degree from the Wharton school to read the value proposition of that chart.

Waco , we will have to agree to disagree. CBS had two sources of programming that constantly took shots at Trump. They were 60 minutes and Steven Colbert. For sixty minutes they had the wife of the late Summer Redstone sit in on 60 minutes production meetings to limit criticism of Trump. That is well documented. They could not control Colbert, so they cut his show. Look at the ratings chart below (posted by WYID #108) Colbert's show had better ratings than Kimmel's. Higher ratings means more advertising revenue hitting the company ledger.
Colbert's show was cut because of politics. He took too many shots at Trump. Kimmel's show was cut/suspended for political reasons as well. He made those statements about Kirk. I never wrote that Kimmel's show was canceled because of a merger.
Kimmel's show was put back on the air because it get's enough ratings to make the show profitable (even.though Kimmel's show does not do as well as Colbert's or "The Late Show" with Jimmy Fallon. If Kimmel's show had ratings like the shows on MSNBC it would have been canceled already. This would be similar to what happens to other shows when people stop watching them.

So, will there be an apology for their "ill advised inference"? Ima still waiting for someone to point out where Kimmble bent the knee and apologized.
Could someone also link where he *donated* to CK thing?

Demographic for late night is probably a changing thing. But with this debacle that ABC did kowtowing to FCC strawman, it shows Big Media is more about the $$$$ than Freedom of Speech. And the public illuminated that point.

Da maggies are still in denial about that. You know they won't own up to a fact pointed out to them that breaks the little narrative they sing about.

if you say so
Yes, it is widely reported that The Late Show with Stephen Colbert was losing money for CBS, with sources citing figures of $40 million or more per year. While CBS called the cancellation "purely a financial decision," there are conflicting opinions on the accuracy of these figures, with some, like Jimmy Kimmel, dismissing them as exaggerated. However, the decline in late-night TV ad revenue and a broader shift towards streaming are significant factors impacting the financial viability of such shows.
and it was Redstone's daughter not his wife. and after 60 Minutes had gotten themselves in their Harris interview mess where they didn't just edit her comments they replaced them entirely with a completely different answer than the promo they released to the sunday news shows.
Sumner Redstone's daughter, Shari Redstone, not his wife, was reported to have asked CBS to hold critical stories about Donald Trump
. Shari Redstone is the chairwoman of Paramount Global, the parent company of CBS News and 60 Minutes

Kimmel isn't seen as a hero, except by low information leftards who apparently think Trump runs ABC. Kimmel's contract is up in January and likely won't get renewed. Are you lefties going to blame Trump for that when Kimmel's show gets axed because it is tanking in the ratings and losing money? Just like Colbert.

@Waco, we can agree on the above. I knew Summer Redstone owned Viacom and had a wife. I didn't know if he had any daughters. I heard she was actually sitting in on 60 minute production meetings. This started after the Harris interview issue. Have a nice day.

If Kimmel's show was losing as much money as you have implied, then why did the Exec's at ABC bother to come up with a pathway for Jimmy K. get his show back on the air? It only took one week after Jimmy K. made the Kirk statements to get his show back on the air. They would not bother to do that if his show was losing all the money you have implied. TV shows with really low ratings can get canceled after one season.

Looking at the size of Kimmel's contract, ABC likely figured if they have to pay him, they're going to make him work. The show is losing ratings, as WYID posted, complete with a nice colored chart. Loss of ratings goes hand in hand with losses in revenue. Nobody wants to advertise on show nobody is watching.
