Maybe DHS should repurpose (or just rebrand) one or two of those immigrant detention centers they're buying/building in some many locations as 'mental institutions'...maybe just section of an area or two within each..
Arizona, Mississippi, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Texas, Maryland, Virginia, Kansas...some $45 billion...surely a couple of those can be used to satisfy the EO.

You're AI assistant is spot on about Social Media Use Disorder (SMUD). That's actually being researched and considered for entry into the DSM as it is considered a behavior addiction, like Gambling Disorder, which is currently the only behavior addiction in the DSM.
https://www.google.com/search?q=is+s...hrome&ie=UTF-8
I don't think your AI assistant is calling TDS a real diagnoses here. It's the only term in quotes and is defined as a "colloquial, non-clinical, and politically charged term".
Non-clinical.
TDS has been used for eight years, but is not being researched or considered for entry into the DSM. I think that's enough time for professionals to determine whether or not it's a true mental disorder.
Here's what I got from ChatGPT:
In short: There’s no formal move within the psychiatric community or the APA to include Trump Derangement Syndrome in the DSM. Efforts that resemble such moves are legislative or media-driven, not part of the scientific DSM review process.
https://chatgpt.com/?utm_source=google&utm_medium= paid_search&utm_campaign=GOOG_ C_SEM_GBR_Core_CHT_BAU_ACQ_PER _MIX_ALL_NAMER_US_EN_091724&c_ id=21714513245&c_agid=16918763 0042&c_crid=713941893298&c_kwi d={keywordid}&c_ims=&c_pms=902 7640&c_nw=g&c_dvc=c&gad_source =1&gad_campaignid=21714513245& gbraid=0AAAAA-I0E5eW2pdZt9FqG5T43-hUSa9ra&gclid=Cj0KCQiAnJHMBhDA ARIsABr7b84Goq8kSnBtxjLJZALDQL _Kx88VaLey7ybXipYCplyyk07tjKTj UOsaAhxfEALw_wcB
Trump is a trigger for people, no doubt, but for extreme cases where people are evidencing truly irrational behavior, he has to be triggering underlying issues.
I found an interesting article in a European political science blog that attempts to outline how Trump uses TDS.
"Trump Derangement Syndrome is not the first diagnosis of a 'presidential syndrome'. But what differentiates Trump is that he has embraced it – and weaponised it to his advantage."
"The US is not alone in politicising psychiatry. To silence dissent, authoritarian regimes have long dismissed opponents as mentally deficient." The article lists a few examples.
"At the time of writing, nobody has yet been institutionalised for TDS, because it isn't a recognised disorder. But, worryingly, as the Minnesota Bill demonstrates, elites in the US continue to exploit the language of psychiatry for political gain. The US leads global psychiatric norms and political trends. Its politicised diagnoses thus carry serious implications."
"Weaponising psychiatric language to polarise public opinion doesn't merely deepen disagreement; it signals that opponents are irrational, dangerous, or socially and politically defective. It legitimises hostility, dehumanisation and even aggression. When a political leader with enormous influence uses such language, it can normalise the same among citizens, encouraging people to pathologise one another in everyday interactions."
Sort of sounds like some of this thread. : )

From the fuggin WSJ no less...jeezis..
The term “TDS” was invented as a weapon to insult and denigrate people who oppose Trump. And one can always find a soul-selling, biased "expert" with excellent credentials to support any quack idea out there. Just look at Scott Bessent…

Hey Rooster, I just did a search, and in 2025, I linked to or extensively quoted the WSJ about six topics,
Pro Trump Editorials:
Obamacare extension of benefits to higher income individuals
Leticia James use of lawfare
Antitrump Editorials:
Stephen Miller's storm troopers
Danielle Sassoon resignation
Antitrump and Anti-Democrat editorials:
Comparison of Trump's jihad against wind to Democrats' jihad against oil and gas
Leticia James Prosecution of Donald Trump and Donald Trump's prosecution of Leticia James
Like I said, the WSJ is Fair and Balanced!
OK, seriously, the WSJ editorial board does slant towards Republicans and, on economic issues, Libertarians. But it's frequently anti-Trump. I agree with you that it's a great, unbiased source of news reporting. In fact, the only two major news outlets in the USA that aren't biased are the WSJ (excluding the editorial page) and Reuters IMO.
Now, as to the TDS, I admit I have a problem. Like I said, I have TDS, BDS, DDS, WDS and GDS. Just to show my paranoia is bipartisan, I also have HDS and NDS (Hawley Derangement Syndrome and Neoconservative Derangement Syndrome.) And, thanks to LustyLad's and Turner's excellent research, I now realize I have DSM! Kudo's to LustyLad's assistant too.
The first step in overcoming a problem like this is admitting you have a problem. We must accept we have TDS. Also, as to the DSM, we spend too much time in the eccie political forum.
I think we need some kind of twelve step program, to overcome our TDS, and for me to overcome my other problems. Esteemed board member GolferGuy has proposed something like Whoremonger Political Posters Anonymous. I'm game for that!
I hope we don't have to stop cold turkey, like AA, and give up posting. I'd much prefer something like the Sex Addicts Anonymous program I went through, where you don't have to give up sex entirely.
Well, there's no better time to start than right now.
Hello, my name is Tiny. I have TDS and I post to a hooker board about politics.

Yeah rooster, I am happy to agree with you!
Turner2099 is a welcome poster as far as I'm concerned because he responds in a calm, intelligent fashion and addresses the SUBSTANCE of a thread or an argument. He makes good points that move the discussion forward, instead of pushing it off-track or off-topic. He doesn't get personal or agitated for no reason.
Wouldn't it be great if everyone could do that?

Kudos. Ya made me laugh.
P.S. Had to look up "contumelious". My vocab just expanded. Don't think I'll be using it much though. 5 syllables, too much of a mouthful. Plus I like "vituperative" better. (Oh wait, that's a fiver too, ain't it?)

(Spoken in unison...) Hi Tiny!
Now that you admit your life is unmanageable and you are powerless to change it, let's proceed to Step Two:
2. Do you believe a Power greater than yourself could restore you to sanity?

Yes I do! Gary Johnson! The catch though is he'd have to be elected president.

Apologies for the late response.
Our esteemed media whore, Psychoanalyst Jonathan Alpert, takes a common affliction of generalized anxiety and proceeds to label it with a political view. For no other reason than to produce an Op-ed in a conservative news outlet with the sole purpose of promoting his upcoming book which is listed at the bottom of the article.
Mr. Alpert is a psychotherapist practicing in New York and Washington and author of “Therapy Nation,” forthcoming in 2026.
Realistically this anxiety he refers to is no different than the Red Scare of the fifties, racial fears of the sixties, nuclear war anxiety that led to the bomb shelter craziness or even the Black Lives Matters anxiety just a few years back.
By labeling it as TDS he’s created a narrative that will keep him in the media spotlight and presumably help his book sales.
That’s why he’s a hack in my opinion.
P.S. He’s not a stranger to controversy. I found this article about him from 2012.
https://www.forbes.com/sites/toddess...le-misconduct/
taken from the article, click the link for the full article.
Jonathan Alpert's Mis-Statements, And Possible Misconduct
“ But do they also need a therapist who will apparently say anything to get attention, sell books, and make himself look good, including coming much closer to the line of professional misconduct than anyone should risk?”

Your historical analogies don't debunk Alpert's diagnosis, they support it!
Each one of those previous "common afflictions" you cite - Red Scare, race fears, nuke worries, BLM riots - was an irrational over-reaction to news events of the time. Just like people with TDS suffer from reflexive, irrational over-reaction to everything Trump says or does today.
The good news is - if the symptoms are similar or the same, then the needed therapy is already tried & tested as well. No need to invent entirely new methods to tamp down this latest iteration of irrational fears or neuroses.
Do you recall whether any psychiatrists back in the day published books instructing the public on how best to cope with the Red Scare, race frictions, nuke worries etc.? Were they all "hacks" and "media whores" too?

No they don’t.
Here is the definition of Trump Derangement Syndrome from the wiki page.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trump_...ement_syndrome
Trump derangement syndrome (TDS) is a pejorative term used to describe negative reactions to U.S. president Donald Trump that are characterized as irrational and disconnected from Trump's actual policy positions. The term has mainly been used by Trump supporters to discredit criticism of him, as a way of reframing the discussion by suggesting that his opponents are incapable of accurately perceiving the world. Some journalists have used the term to call for restraint when judging Trump's statements and actions. The term has also come to be used to describe the nature of Trump supporters in their unwavering support of the president.
Mr. Alpert’s article doesn’t describe this. This definition is strictly political in nature and is not psychiatric. And even though the article tries to disassociate one definition from the other just the fact that he refers to it in the title of the article is proof in my mind of his intent to use the media attention it creates to further his own ends.
