In fact I walked around in Clarksville when it was SEGREGATED and the people who lived there were not allowed to swim in West Enfield Pool on West Enfield Road ... and the folks in Clarksville could catch the bus down on West Lynn and transfer to a bus on Lake Austin Blvd to go down to 6th and Congress to transfer again!!! They sat in the back....fyi... I sat with them, cuz there was seats!!!
Not only were the NOT ALLOWED to sit at the Nau's ENFIELD Drug store soda fountain when the came in, but they were not allowed to sit at the soda fountain in Woolworths down at 6th & Congress.
Nau's Enfield Drug IS NOT IN THE MIDDLE OF CLARKSVILLE ....
it is on West Lynn ..... Here's the OFFICIAL Austin City MAP!!!
http://www.austintexas.gov/sites/def...larksville.pdf
For you map reading challenged carpetbaggers .. the pink is Clarksville!!!!
West Lynn is CLEARLY NOT WITHIN CLARKSVILLE!!!!
Isn't it "odd" that a drug store is called NAU'S ENFIELD DRUG and not NAU'S CLARKSVILLE DRUG if it sat "in the middle of Clarksville" and isn't it even more incredible that a "drug store" located "in the middle of an Black community wouldn't allow Blacks to sit at the soda fountain. Now even more "unusual" is that the property owners and drug store owners don't claim "Historical Privileges" and take advantage of grants and tax breaks (of which the City of Austin is nationally known) if their property and business sat "in the middle of Clarksville" which is a designated historical location with the accompanying benefits. .....
.. carpetbaggers should put a sock in it.
Now why do all these people want to "be in Clarksville"?
It makes them feel like a part of the Black History and for $$$$$$!
They are not a part of "Black History" but they do get the $$$$$$$!
That's Austin for you!!!! All empty suits!!!
Beamers, beansprouts, and beanies!

These carpetbaggers that infested Austin are (and were) amazing ...
... they hit the Austin city limits (Speedo stopped short!) and a month later ..... they are "from Austin" and "Austinites"!!!!!!
Now there is a new standard: One can't know anything about Austin unless they live there .... "RIGHT NOW!" .... OH, YEA ..
... by osmosis if you reside within the scope of the prevailing breezes from the Southeast .... you can absorb "knowledge" about Austin from breathing the Gulf breeze rolling in .... !!!!
But carpetbaggers are like that ..... fucking "know-it-alls"!

...... The End!.............

They certainly have been a plague on Austin and vicinity.
It began with the "peaceniks" .... then "the guitars" ..... then "the suspenders" .... and topped off with "the Socialists" ... now full of transplanted snobs. Used to be pleasant.

You don't live in Austin either. And I probably lived in Austin (1992-2005) more recently than you.
The map you have posted is an area called the Clarksville HISTORICAL area. It is true that Nau's Drug Store and Jeffrey's Restaurant and Sledd Nursery are NOT in the Clarksville HISTORICAL area of Austin. However, you ask anyone who knows ANYTHING about Austin and they will confirm that the above mentioned establishments are found in the Clarksville area of Austin, which is quite a bit larger than the Clarksville HISTORICAL area.
Let it go. You are wrong if you continue to say Nau's Drug Store is NOT in the Clarksville area of Austin.

You just made my point! All you have are advertisements and publicity bullshit where folks are trying to make money off claiming to be in Clarksville, as opposed to the City of Austin official map that defines Clarksville. Your overwhelming ignorance of the process of identifying an " historical district" and getting it approved shows and says reams about your general lack of knowledge .... of course you don't believe the results of numerous administrative hearings and review of historical data. You are a newcomer ... Mr. Carpetbagger ... I am personally familiar with the location of Clarksville having walked through it numerous times when it wouldn't make anyone any money .... YOU DID NOT!
I also went into Nau's ENFIELD Drug Store in the segregation days!.... YOU DID NOT!
So I know more about it than you do!!! You're just the typical internet loudmouth .... who moved to Austin recently and claims to know all about it!!!! You don't like "HISTORY"??
You can go sit back on the bench and keep an eye on the water bucket!

Absolutely no one in any of the websites I posted are trying to make money off of claiming what constitutes the area known as "Clarksville". Prove otherwise. The fact that I have been to Nau's, Jeffrey's, and Sledd's in Clarksville has no relevance to what area of town they are in. They earn my business by being places I want to go, not by what the area of Austin they are in is called.
No I did not go to Nau's in segregation days. So what? I grew up in a state with no segregation. When I arrived here in 1992, you had FINALLY allowed blacks to ride anywhere on the bus, eat in the same restaurants, sleep in the same hotels, drink from the same water fountains, use the same rest room facilities, and go to the same schools, Conditions that existed in most states for centuries. The FACT that you at one time lived in a segregated state is NOT a plus.
History has nothing to do with the fact that you are WRONG!!! YOU are arguing stupidly that the Clarksville HISTORICAL area is the totality of Clarksville. You are WRONG!!!
I've already countered your ONE map which clearly states "Historical" with many other maps. I have countered your single OPINION with statements of others who disagree with you. If you can cite a single 3rd party source that states that Nau's is NOT in Clarksville, please supply the link. If you can cite a map other than an historical map that shows Nau's outside of Clarksville, please supply the link.
You do not live in the Austin area. I do. Us "carpetbaggers" have helped make Austin what it is today -- the fastest growing major city in the state, the most educated city in Texas, and the highest rated tech city in the state. When we get rednecks like you to leave, life improves.

[QUOTE=SpeedRacerXXX;1058494777] If you argue that Nau's Drug Store is not in the Clarksville Historical area of Austin, you are correct. If you continue to argue that Nau's Drub Store is not in the Clarksville area of Austin, you are incorrect.
/QUOTE]
Speedy, youre'a transplant. admit it!
A local who lived in or near that area would know more about it than you do.
the knowledge of a city by a local holds more weight than a transplanted local could ever know.
sometimes the old days were better than what passes for the good days today.
man, you're ancient to be involved with that crazy segregation shit back then.
