And the latest prices at your local fav, thr Dirty Bird

Hillendale $3.99

Egglands Best $5.49

Seems the prices are stalled and don't wanna go lower. I may have to write a letter to The President.

Latest report shows reduced egg production. Also, reduced wholesale prices... but we're still not where we need to be

Quote:
Egg market report

The USDA’s Egg Markets Overview report issued Aug. 8, stated the wholesale prices for national trading of truck lot quantities of graded, loose, white large shell eggs decreased 46 cents to $2.46 per dozen. In the major Midwest production region, wholesale prices for large, white shell eggs delivered to warehouses decreased 9 cents to $3.50 per dozen with a weak overtone noted.

Shell egg demand continues to struggle into early August, as the report noted consumers have yet to fully adjust to current retail price levels and while grocers have been offering some relatively attractive price levels with advertising, the week-to-week consistency has been lacking leading to an “in-and-out” buying pattern by consumers. The report does expect demand to increase as a new school year approaches.

3.09 for Hillindale free range brown eggs at SnS this week.

I had to give up buying insulin for the next 12 months, and that was tough to do, but you have to prioritize the things like EGGS, that really matter in your life.

I'm just glad they were under 3.50, or I would have had to let my health insurance go for a year as well.

That's rough Devo. Gotta make those tough choices, though. Prioritize. Adapt.

$3.99 for the Hillandale Large White Grade A this week

$5.49 for Eggland's Best

Those Giant Eagle prices remain stubbornly high.

No, you don't say Giant Eagle prices are high??????

I really like to pay 19.00 a pound for a NY Strip and that was before the beef crisis.

Even the Dollar General, which you must near, has had eggs under four dollars a doz for weeks.

Gotta shop for those bargains.

GE is the largest regional grocery store. It makes more sense to use them to compare pricing than discount stores, big box, specialty grocers or convenience stores.

My comparison isn't about finding the highest or lowest prices. It's about the avg price of eggs for the avg consumer and using a consistent metric. GE allows that easily, as they carry nationally sources and regionally sourced eggs so we can compare those, too.

If you'd like to share the Aldi's price every week, have at my dude.

It's not about finding the cheapest eggs possible, either. It's about the price of the eggs we prefer to eat being higher now than it was a year ago.

I prefer organic, cage-free eggs. They taste *much* better, they're healthier for you, and healthier for the chickens who lay them.

Never paid more than $4.59 before JV started whining about the prices of everything (which they've still done nothing to address, btw). Those same eggs are $5.99 today.

trump et al. don't give a shit about egg prices. Never have. They just pretended to care in order to secure the angry moron vote.

Did the bird flu care about egg prices too?

Its like blaming Trump for beef prices when economics have forced the smallest cow herd in decades.

I'm glad I don't have to complain about being too poor to buy what I need, I knew poor folks growing up that would keep their mouths shut tight before complaing they didn't have enough to eat.

It was called pride, today, its entitlements, you believe you are entitled to lower egg prices.

Well, to solve that, build a chicken coop and raise your own chickens and eggs, we did, and we have.

Teach a man to raise eggs, and he has all the eggs he wants.

Teach a man to beg and whine for eggs, and we have folks like you.

We have neighbors selling free range eggs for 4 bucks, its been that price for years, they didn't go to 8 dollars when eggs went up, they stayed the same, a fair price no matter what the market does.

I know corn farmers that sell their corn for 1 dollar under spot prices, because they don't want to fuck the locals.

Perhaps the issue is where you buy from.

Most folks don't have that option, Devo. Or get their eggs from a coworker that raises their own chickens.

As we approach the end of summer we'll need to see what happens. I'm not expecting Trump to get us back to $2.99 nationally for large Grade A. Are you?

His USDA sure isn't

Ummmm.

Let me ponder this.

No, it's meaningless to me, I only occasionally eat eggs, more often I use them in recipes.

I am having a hunger, so I'll probably do a batch of egg salad, Dukes Mayo, maybe some finely chopped celery and water chestnuts.

At today's prices 6 eggs are about the cost of the water chestnuts, so, the egg cost is basically meaningless, it's only part of the equation.

I really love egg salad on croissants, but usually use whole wheat bread, I have come to love less processed breads.

I can also make the case for only egg, Helmans mayo and the small flat, approximately 4" wide dinner rolls from Sam's.

You need a very fine mince on the eggs and time to let flavors meld.

But enough about me and eggs, how has this turrible shortage impacted your life?

Dont hold back.
