My favorite book growing up was "To Kill a Mockingbird".

This Paterno incident reminds me of this. All the blame has went to Paterno instead of the real person who committed the crime.

Its incomparable what "Eccie" might do. Around here, we are all anonymous. Even if we were made aware of a situation, who and what would we report to? "An anonymous person from an anonymous internet message board who claims to live in Houston TX as told us of _____"? "We have no idea who it really is or where they might actually live but we thought you might want to be aware of it"?

In the Penn State situation the names, occupations, employers were well know not only to the university but to the public as well. People could be interviewed and an investigation could take place.

Incomparable? We have IP addresses. It is a matter of how much one wants to become involved.

We tell the cops all we know and let them do their jobs. Or do we tell the Mods. and then the Mods tell the Cops? Or do we do as you suggest and just ignore it because it is to much trouble?

My point is, it becomes very tricky indeed when you are the one under the gun.

We were talking about the chain of command. Paterno followed the chain of command. Should the law be changed? Should the person who saw the action be the one to report it to police? I say yes.

Paterno should not have even been involved. McQuiry should have went to the police IMHO.

My defense of Paterno has been the overzealous fools that think with hindsight they know exactly wtf they would have done. With hindsight, Paterno knew what he would have done different. Unfortunatly we do not livve in a world where hindsight is allowed except on Monday morning on talk radio where we all would know how and what to do.
