Actually, they won't buy two drinks. They'll buy one and either get a refill if it's free, or pay for a refill if it's not. What's funny here is that the fatties are actually complaining about the fact that they have to get off their ass, walk to the soda machine, and get a free refill...awesomeness...

If they're that lazy, this law will have its intended effect without a doubt...and it'll bring extra money into the city to deal with the $4 billion a year it spends of fat people...making fat people pay for themselves for a change...I love it...

Turns out the fatties aren't even smart enough to vote...
NYC's population is a little over 8 million.

Still a poor turn-out.

Hmm...I had you figured for a personal responsibilty kind of guy. I like the idea of making people pay for themselves. Those making good choices will reap rewards and those making poor choices will suffer the effects accordingly. So many otherwise intelligent people don't get the end game in all this. I talk to people all the time who claim they are against government control of our lives and yet get sucked into this trap. They start with the notion that we all ought to be responsible for our own lives, but then support stuff like this out of frustration because you don't won't to support fat people. The folks wanting control of it all are laughing because they didn't just get what they wanted, they got the people most likely to be opposed to actually support it! The real answer would be to ditch paying for everyone, period. I don't want to pay for some cheeto eating, 60 ounce slurping welfare queen, but I don't want to pay for you either!

I love personal responsibility...unfortunately , fat people don't know how to be responsible for themselves, and we pay for it...that's why I like New York effectively taxing the types of behavior that cause the problem...

So are you just opposed to paying for their bad choices or you want to control their choices regardless? One is the choice of a socialist; since we as a society bear the burden of your choices we reluctantly, albeit necessarily, have to enforce some controls on your choices. The other is authoritatian; I know how to live your life better than you so I am taking your free will in the name of protecting you from yourself. There is no personal responsibility in either choice. Personal responsibility would be; I'm not paying for it, kill yourself if you want.

I'm opposed to having to pay for their choices. Actually, neither of your situations apply in the slightest to the obesity solution that New York is trying.

First, New York isn't controlling the choices. The people make their own choices, it's just that their choices will either cause them to work harder or pay more. It's still their choice. Anyone can go through the New York situation without working any harder or paying more, but certain choices you make will cause you to do one other the other or both.

Second, New York isn't taking any free will away from anyone. As I said, anyone can live in New York and not have to do anything different when going to a restaurant. Certain choices will make them do different things, but that's up to them.

And methinks you don't know what socialism is...the dialectic crucifies that thought...

Interesting research on the whole "build muscle to burn fat" idea...

Yep, it is...

BTW, you guys hear about this Facebook fitness mom?

http://www.nydailynews.com/life-styl...icle-1.1487278

She actually got called a "bully" for that...well fuck you, fatties...

"What I WILL say is this. What you interpret is not MY fault. It's Yours. The first step in owning your life, your body and your destiny is to OWN the thoughts that come out of your own head. I didn't create them. You created them. So if you want to continue 'hating' this image, get used to hating many other things for the rest of your life. You can either blame, complain or obtain a new level of thought by challenging the negative words that come out of your own brain. With that said, obesity and those who struggle with health-related diseases is literally a 'bigger' issue than this photo. Maybe it's time we stop tip-toeing around people's feelings and get to the point."

Our society needs to stop reinforcing fat as a positive body image. The whole "I'm comfortable in my body" fat image is simple enabling of horrible habits and weak minded actions. You want to call someone a "bully" for pointing out your fat? How about you unfuck your fat ass...and don't give cause for anyone to talk about you...another horrid example of how that word is completely misused.
