If you have a child and you are living in a shelter, then you should easily qualify for food stamps or TANF.

I do feel for you Mallory, but this is all not sitting right. I don't blame anyone for being skeptical. If you are at a shelter then there should be some entity there that can assist you in getting food and getting help. I am guessing you have your baby with you, right? Not to sound callous, but that baby is your ticket to the best food clothing and shelter the state has to offer. Hell, it is your ticket to free everything, including an education.
When I was a single mother of two in nursing school, it took me a few months before I realized I needed financial help to make it thru the program and I was absolutely astonished at how much the state and school offered to pay for me once I broke down and applied for it - they even paid for my transportation to and from school! It was REALLY incredible. Texas helps single moms so much when they are in need. I didn't like having to ask for help, but once I finally did I was so grateful for the support.
You need the right kind of support, not little things to get you by day by day. The shelter should be able to get you to the local welfare office. Go fill out their paperwork and they will get you immediate, reliable help. Tell them you want to go back to school and they will practically hold your hand thru the hole process. I'm telling you, Texas is amazing in this respect. They want to help single moms succeed.
There is also the option of going into a program for providers who want to leave the sex work industry. Again, because you have a baby, they will be more inclined to help you if you really want help. I'm not saying that you should stop providing but if you can't feed yourself or get diapers for your baby, as was the previous case, then maybe it's time to try something different.
I'm sorry you are going thru this and hope you find the help that you really need rather than a bunch of small handouts that just mask the underlying problem. Please go to TANF as BSB suggested. At the very least they will give you WIC vouchers for you and the baby.
You will be in my thoughts and prayers.

That is true and I think they will give you emergency food stamp that day. Find out where your local human resource office is and take it from there. It would be one less thing to worry about.

What's the point in throwing stones, billygoat? Life is tough enough as it is, man....and for some, it can feel like a tunnel with no light at the end of it. Remember, a kind word costs us nothing,,,,,and sometimes that's all someone needs to make it through the day.
I think the old adage "if you've nothing nice to say, say nothing at all" might apply here. Standing on a soapbox, proclaiming you're honest and you call b.s. when and where you see it....well, good for you. But how does that help another human being who's obviously hurting and in pain?
This young lady is down on her luck....asking for help (from strangers) may be the last thing she wants to do. But if there's a baby / child involved and there's no family / relatives offering any support....she's doing what any mother would (and should) do.
I wish you much luck, Ms Ray. Once again I see members of Eccie (and in almost every case, it's the same cast of characters, too) stepping up to offer what they can. Hope things turn around for you soon.

Have the shelter take you and your baby down to the TANF office today before they close for the weekend and get some emergency food money. They will not let a mother and baby go hungry. And if they do, then call Channel 8 News.
Your application could take days to even be seen. You need to physically be in there offices and show you have immediate needs that are not being met. They cannot turn you away.
Edit: I hadn't seen this when I posted:

I'm sorry. I hope you get things turned around and get your baby back. But in all honesty, this isn't where you should be looking for help anymore. This lifestyle isn't making your situation better, its making it worse. Time to make some changes. I will still be thinking of you and hoping for the best.

I don't know why people think I'm begging and I'm not. I seriously need all the help I can right now. I really normally don't like asking for help. It is just kinda last resort thing

I don't understand this idiom. Does it mean the people who were helping were taking it out in trade, as it were? Helping, but with strings attached?
I personally find that distasteful, but I can't really say it's wrong. Even Mother Teresa expected the people she helped to do things like come to mass when they could and baptizing them before they died.
On balance, food with strings is usually better than no food. And when you're hungry, or your baby is hungry, that's an easy choice.
Good luck Mallory. There are some good services available to help women and children in your situation. Please don't be afraid to seek them out. Everything from housing and food to childcare and job training can be found. You can start with a call to 311 where you can talk to a real person who will help you find the right organisations/government offices.

I haven't bashed you. I've said that based on the info I've been given, I cannot in good conscience help you out with your request. I help those who need help. I don't help those who game the system.
