FWIW, I recently asked a police officer who retired after 30 years on the job whether or not most police officers would stop a person for driving 5 MPH over the posted speed limit. His answer was definitely "NO".

He cited several reasons why they do not do so but the main reason was that speedometers are notoriously inaccurate.

Instead of speeding, let's talk about the laws on sodomy:

Define sodomy: anal or oral copulation with a member of the same or opposite sex.

I would bet that based on the definition probably all on ECCIE have engaged in sodomy, whether with a spouse, girlfriend, or hooker. It wasn't until 2003 that laws against sodomy were struck down by SCOTUS. I would be willing to bet that law enforcement never brought sodomy charges against straight people basically making the law not a law in their eyes. Does ANYONE in the state of Texas who ever got a blow job prior to 2003 believe they had committed a crime? Sodomy was a law on the books that was not enforced and I personally did not consider it breaking the law in 2002 if I got a blow job.

Same goes for speeding. If I am told by police officers who are responsible for enforcing the law that driving 5 MPH over the speed limit is NOT considered by them to be breaking the law. why should I or anyone else consider it breaking the law? Yes, in reality I am breaking the law but since the police say I am not breaking the law by not stopping me when they know I am going 5 MPH over the speed limit, I must not be speeding in their eyes. And not breaking the law.

BTW, I was once pulled over by a police officer even though I was driving UNDER the posted speed limit because the roads had snow on them and he thought I was not driving safely for the conditions. No ticket issued.
