Default PS5 Repair Question

My sons PS5 has been at the shop for 9 days getting repaired.

3 other shops told me I had to send it to Sony, but this guy claims he can fix it & his reviews on google confirm he has fixed PS5s with this same issue.

The motherboard needs to be replaced. He originally told me 2 days & just keeps extending it.

Every time I call, he says "he's working on it".

Is this realistic? I'm trying to be understanding but it seems like he is BSing me.

What should/can I do to speed up the process?

If he had to order a new board it might take a while.
Depends on which PS5 as there are several models.
Sometimes techs strip parts off of other motherboards to fix the one they are working on.
It's probable he's having parts delivery/acquisition issues. But he should have said that might happen in advance.
Consider pricing a new machine as a sanity check against his repair estimate.

Btw, with the new PS5 Pro being released early Nov the younger generation clones of various close friends are mentioning that prices on new but older PS5 models are dropping.

Thank you.

A few hours after I posted this, he texted me & said he "used all his knowledge" & still couldn't fix it.

I wish I would have just taken the word of the 1st repair shop because each of these places charged me a diagnostic fee & it is still broke.

I guess I'll just have to buy him a new one :-(

Hmm I wonder if this is the same guy who I took my gaming PC too ... had my computer for days and I don't think he even looked at it . I finally went to pick it up before I left town and he had it sitting in the sun in his driveway !(works from his garage) I was so upset , who keeps a 1000+ PC in 100+ temps . I took it somewhere else and they had to wait a day to look at it bc it was so hot it was overworking the fans . SMH

Unfortunately , buying a new one will probably be best and cost about the same as the motherboard replacement .

Is there anywhere I can sell his broke PS5 or should I just throw it in the trash?

Or maybe there is somewhere I can recycle it?
