Whatever his motives were, they're not going to make any damn sense anyway to any reasonably thinking person... IMO, his dad should have done his son a favor and just let him off himself and saved the folks of Utah the task and hassle of doing so for him.

In my opinion this happens too many times. I prefer that they be taken alive. Maybe we can gain some insight to where his life went wrong to help prevent others from doing the same.
