Flying Fish in Preston Center (Northwest Highway and Preston) is decent enough. Not great catfish, but adequate.

That's kind of how I feel about the Arlington location. Plus, I have a hard time referring to a chain restaurant as a "hole in the wall". Seems to lack authenticity.

Doesn't mean it's a bad place. Just doesn't seem to fit the definition IMHO.

For Mexican I can`t name just one, but the area of N Main here in FW between University and the stock yards. Maybe 10-12 and don`t even waste your time at Joe t`s except for drinks. The food is way overrated. One of my personal favorites is La Asadero, any of you girls don`t believe me I will take you there and prove it..

Maybe not a hole in the wall but I just had the BEST chopped brisket sandwich ever with chunks of cracked black pepper and cole slaw ....
Kathy Trail Ice House Outpost @ Plano ...
The oversized terrace that makes you feel at the beach ... its worth trying

Isn't the original Katy Trail on the trail the "must go to" location for out-of-towners? I've not imbibed at either, but at least at the original she may get to see Troy Aikman going for his afternoon run, right?

Thats the one TinMan...
I used to run the trail and get motivated by chasing up some yoga pants ...

They all serve the Brisket Sandwich but I guess the chef @ Plano location knows what he is doing ...
The terrace is a plus with lots of very nice hot waitresses ... I kept wondering ...

Well, I couldn't bring myself to rehash 13 pages of posts but of the first 30 I did read, nobody mentioned Off-Site-Kitchen. It's on Irving Blvd in Dallas (a little northwest of Oaklawn -- think the Anatole Hotel or Parkland Hospital.)

Ab-so-fucking-lutely the best burgers & fries (and yes, I've had Maple&Motor, and almost everything else.) And the 48hr cracked pepper brisket is to die for (but have them hold the cheese - IMHO it overpowers all the other wonderful flavors happening in that sandwich. It's truely a hole-in-the-wall, most seating is outdoors and it looks like a total dive - except for the line out the door.

(And if you didn't know, it's moving to that new Trinity Grove incubator space soon - which I fear means the end of $4 burger deliciousness!) Run don't walk!

Tinman, what'd you have?

Jasmine Thai (the original location somewhere in middle-nowhere Plano, NOT the location on Parker Rd 75) has some fantastic cooking. It used to be that mom&uncle where the two primary cooks and you'd overhear callers asking who exactly was cooking that night. Anyway, they have a Bataba that rocks (of course, it's the only place I've ever had it, but I can't bring myself to try anything else on the menu!)

One avenue that hasn't come up here that I know of : Indian food?

Can`t believe nobody mentioned Fred`s. The original one before it burned the first time had without a doubt the best burger in these parts. Its still good but has lost its unique charm. Back then they had beer only and BYOB crawled home several times after sharing a bottle of Patron with Terry, the owner.
