^^i agree with almost everything you said. but Maersk isn't exactly a greenhorn in the global shipping biz, and for them, the transit was worth the risk.
i think it will come down to a decision company by company-including insurance companies-and captain by captain.
if i was going to run the gantlet, i'd be in contact with the U.S. Navy every step of the way, including before i even fired up the motor.
crazy fact, it was helo gunships that took out the IRGC fast attack boats yesterday, not F-18s, A-10s, or missiles directly from a destroyer. (new thing is loading up Navy Seahawks MH-60s with weapons. random fact, that's the bird my little brother commanded from an amphibious assault ship, the Pelieu.)
and you're right, thinking we're big billy badass is what got us into this tricky spot to begin with. i'm more into realism than chest pounding.

Just one tanker sunk will send global energy markets into chaos that will make current times look like the good ol' days...not to mention the horrible destruction that will then reign down on Iran because of it.
Diplomacy needs to resolve this. And that is in the hands of a bunch of incompetent fucking morons who allowed this unbelievable disaster to happen in the first place.

Those ships can be escorted out today. They can say fuck Iran. But that only matters if they intend to not go back into the Persian Gulf for other future shipments. The advantage for Iran is that the US will not be able to guide or escort ships in perpetuity.

at least one major shipping company, Hapag-Lloyd, confirmed your points and concerns. they refuse to run the gantlet under present conditions in the Strait. (the number of civilian transits in the last 24 hours is in dispute, but is somewhere between 4 and 11.)
https://www.google.com/amp/s/thehill...-transits/amp/
this is why it is best to let sleeping dogs lie..
interesting new development: we now several Air Force jets patrolling the Strait: not only A-10s, but F-16s, F-15s, and F-35s, including some from New Jersey.
https://www.airandspaceforces.com/us...ait-of-hormuz/
this story changes by the hour. now Trump has paused the Strait's secured corridor to "give peace a chance." that's a dumb move. he should have instead paused the blockade if he wanted to give Iran a concession. crazy gas prices are going nowhere fast, which is also true of commercial ships stuck in the Persian Gulf..

Heggy says the issue of the Strait is different from the Iran war. wait, what??!!
https://www.politico.com/news/2026/0...ckade-00906313
knowing how corrupt this admin is, my guess is that Heggy and/or the Orange Clown were bribed by U.S. oil companies, which are basically the only parties, besides Iran, who are benefiting from the status quo in the Strait of Hormuz and the termination of the "escort" plan..

He had to call off Operation Dipshit because Saudi Arabia refused to let Trump stage his operation from bases in their country.
I truly hope they stop this stupid shit real soon and Iran doesn’t force Trump to blow up the fucking world.
No matter how this ends, Trump is the world’s biggest LOSER. This is fucking embarrassing.

wow, this is quite a bit to process..
i'm wondering if the Saudis don't like Trump's (former) plan to open the Strait, what do they suggest instead?
this whole situation is Exhibit A for why Trump's "fly by the seat of his pants" model of governance is not the most effective..
someone in his adminp or family needs to yank him off "Lies Social". i can't think of a single benefit from his use of social media to make policy pronouncements..
an "intervention" is needed..

I wonder if anyone has bothered to tell Trump that threatening Iran with violence at this point is a waste of time. They don't seem too concerned that Heggy's stupid ass likes to use a $1m missile to take out one of their $20k drones.
I think most Americans would be happy if things were just back to the norm with the lunatics in charge there before Trump's rotted senile brain decided to waste tens of billions of dollars to show the powers that be there exactly what they already knew - that America has the best military in the world but unlike them, we do have limits on what extreme measures we are able to take.
Those people don't give a shit if there is a global recession. They have no problem waiting Trump out and watching the world economy slowly burn. Whatever pennies on the dollar they agree to, Trump needs to take it, declare victory and lie to the American people about the success this war was while everyone but simpleton MAGAs will know that this was a horribly thought out economic disaster of a war initiated by complete morons who had no reasonable strategy to have a successful conclusion yet started the war anyway.
Iran's conditions to end this war are probably going to be... ummmmm... We haven't decided yet and we are in no hurry so bomb away and waste more money Trump if you want to.

Those of us with good sense already knew what Trump was doing was foolhearty. Only a limited number of stupidiotic people thought we’d beat Iran the way we went about it.
I’ll reiterate, as I stated weeks ago, we can’t find a way to surrender so we’re stuck. We lost this “conflict” before it started and Iran will be stronger afterwards.

so Trump failed to consult allies in the Persian Gulf before announcing Project Freedom-more new policy first introduced out of thin air on Lies Social in the middle of the night-which is part of the reason that Saudia Arabia was miffed.
now, after consulting with U.S. officials, both Saudia Arabia and Kuwait have dropped their objections.
https://nypost.com/2026/05/07/us-new...-to-us-report/
Iran is shooting (without hitting) at U.S. destroyers-3 to be exact, today-transiting the Strait, so no question they will shoot at civilian vessels too that try to run the gantlet.
moving civilian ships through the Strait is obviously going to be dicey, so they will need the presence of heavily-armed "guards", like destroyers, A-10s, and F-16s providing defensive cover fire for the transit.
meanwhile, Iran has created an entire government agency to "manage" the Strait, including deciding on who may pass and collecting tolls, for the first time in history..
basically, this is a clusterfuck that the Orange Clown has created for himself, but make no mistake, securing the Strait is by far the only objective now that matters to U.S. national security from this war. all of the other goals only matter to Israel, including nukes, long range ballistic missiles, funding of proxies, etc. etc. None of that poses a direct threat to the United States.
so let's see what Trump decides to do. he'd be a fool not to make opening the Strait his top priority. maybe we'll learn in an all-caps message on Lies Social around 3am, as Trump pounds furiously away on his keyboard and threatens to blow up the whole world if he doesn't get his way..
