Rush is a national treasure. Someday, there will be a Rush Memorial on the national mall, similar to the Lincoln Memorial except way bigger and nicer! 
Here's a bust of Rush at the Missouri capitol rotunda. It's the same principal as the national memorial just smaller.

It's called showbiz. Rush is a bright guy and I agree with most of his political views, but I realize he's kidding about half the time. People that don't get irony, take Rush the wrong way. The whole persona of being an arrogant windbag is just schtick. It's all part of the act. A lot of what he does is just to rattle the liberal's cages. He enjoys pissing them off.
