FYI, I never said I was a war hero. The heroes are buried in cemeteries around the planet where ever Americans have fought for freedom.

Nor did I ever say that Obama was taking over the world. If you are going to lie about me try to get your facts straight.

I agree with Lacrew. This could be an interesting discussion if people would quit calling names and address the issue. I'll admit when the President proposed a civilian army, I got a little unnerved. However, the dynamics present in post WWI Germany are quite different than what are present in the US today.

Regardless of which party is in power, we need to evaluate what they propose critically. If we did that, maybe we wouldn't be losing so many young men and women in stupid wars, and losing our privacy at the hands of both Democrats and Republicans. And don't get me started on taxes!

John Galt's lunacy is the topic of this thread. If he wanted to actually discuss the issues he raised in his original post, he would have provided links to what he was talking about. I, for one, would like to rip into his sources. I hope he posts some links.

Kansas City Obama youth video and story.

I'll leave it at that for now. Much of the rest is logic; unemployment goes up and youth are the most effected. So now you have millions of people from 16 to 25 who cannot find work. The government now offers them work at better than minimum wage with a "workforce". Most will take the money and run but others will show an aptitude for taking and enforcing orders without the discipline of the military. The military swears to defend the constitution, who will Obama corps swear allegiance to? The video shows them swearing to Obama himself. May I remind you that the SS swear allegiance to Hitler and not Germany. Of course you will attack the sources but I remind you that those sources show were they got the original words.

Longermonger,

I have stated this before. If you want to discuss why a thread is off topic, send me a PM.

I'm just amazed by the paranoia. Seriously? You think a Obama controlled militia is a real possibility? Obama proposes (really just throws it out there, as there never was a formal proposal) a WPA type program to get unemployed youth working on infrastructure type projects, and immediately, people assume that we will soon be controlled by a Obama youth gang. People have no obligation to like or respect Obama, but they should respect the American people and know that this could not happen here. Don't give me the Germany parallel - it's a different time and a different culture. It could not happen here. Ever. It's stupid and if you truly worry about stuff like that, you are not very smart yourself.

Do you realize the Germans said the same thing about the Soviet Union. They were a cradle of civilization. The Germans had given birth to Mozart (yes, but they thought Austria was German), Beethoven, Wagner, Martin Luther, Kant, and Freud. Never did they believe that they would elect a man like Hitler (who wasn't even from Germany). A man who would use their own laws to achieve power and who would use their own fears to be a dictator.

Do I think Obama can succeed creating some kind of militia group, maybe. Do I think that people around him would like to try, definitely. Kind of like attempted murder charges; I don't give people credit for failing but will condemn them for trying.

Of course you could spend your time showing me where my logic is flawed rather than hurl insults. That would be refreshing.

John Galt just admitted that he thinks Obama and the Democrats are capable of this conspiracy. Capable?!? You just admitted that Democrats are capable, John. Hel-looooo?

Galt, by your "logic" if Obama is capable of rolling out a secret personal army to take over the United States (that he already governs!), then he's more than capable of actually running the country. That's why YOU are going to vote for him in 2012. You either believe that he's capable of running the country (he is), or you believe that it is too dangerous for you to vote against him because he's making a list of all those that vote against his evil plans.

Not to belabor the point, I'm not talking about Tigris or Euphrates. I'm talking about how the Germans wrote about themselves, their self identity. True, they got a late start coming into existence after the height of the Roman Empire but they feel pretty confident about how far they came.

Similar to what happened to World War I. The European countries had a pretty high opinion of themselves. Those countries that they colonized were backward and needed European guidance by civilized peoples. If you read the writers of the "lost generation" they were saddened and surprised that they, the civilized elite, could be drug into devastating war over so little. Some historians have said that this explains some of their reticence over taking action on Germany and Hitler.
You've lived through this; how did this country feel after Vietnam?
