I love a good pawn shop -- I've gotten two of my watches at a higher end one. I priced out an automatic cartier (santos) and a manual piaget with a couple of jewelers and an auction house, against what I would pay there. I paid 1/2 of what I would have otherwise paid (for used pieces) and less than 1/3 of the insurance values. They are appraised and on my home insurance supplemental policy. They won't be going back to the pawn shop, unless I'm wearing it while getting a new one.
So some women know about pawn shops because it makes sense as a consumer.

As to gifts; I gave my special (married) person a Steuben Excalibur letter opener, an IPad Portfolio and a Zeo Sleep Machine. The Steuben is an amazingly beautiful piece. Its also something he will use every day, that can be left at the office. I went by his office the other day and he has about 15 pieces from me; including a several hundred pound jade villlage carving that I got him as a thank for an amazing trip we went on together. I admit; that one was pretty ridiculous, but I like to say thank you in a big way!
